It was with great sadness that we learned today of Mike's passing.
We have been good family friends for many years beginning in the mid 1960s. A family friendship that was etched in stone and a friendship that has endured the test of time.
Mike had a special way of dealing with situations and could always find the positive in the worst possible situation. If he had a problem you would not hear about it. Even though he had his share of medical problems he was always more interested in the well being of others. If anyone needed help, he would always be the first in line, and could be counted on, to offer his assistance. This was Mike at his finest, willing to help others in their time of need. This was true in the Military, the Scouting movement, his career with the Commissioners and the Royal Canadian Legion. I was always amazed at his dedication to solving the task at hand and the loyalty he exhibited to those he served.
Mike Shannon will be missed by those of us who knew him as Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Soldier, Scout Leader, Commissioner or friend. As long as we, family and friends.....have hearts, minds and stories to tell...Mike will not be forgotten.
May God rest his soul....God Bless him and the Shannon family.

Bridget,
I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. Losing a parent is difficult and painful. My father died almost eight months ago and I still miss him so much. But I still hear him from time to time, giving me that fatherly advice or sharing a laugh or two. He will always be in my thoughts and heart.
I am thinking of you and your mother during this difficult time. Your father was a wonderful and kind man who seemed to love life.
Love, Margaret Eagle

Pops always looked out for me.
Spent 20 years in the federal government with Mike Shannon. I will always remember my first day on the job, when I parked my motorcycle in a reserved stall at the office. Mike was chief security commissioner and he made it very clear with a hefty parking ticket that he was the boss and you don't mess with the boss. I was a young kid and he reminded me of my dad who always ruled with a firm but fair hand. From that point I always came to work in the morning and would poke my head in his office on my way by and say "morning pops!". Mike would look up nod his head and give me his big old friendly smile. Pops was a best friend and the kindest person you could ever know. We shared many stories and laughs together over the years and he always came by my office to check up on me on those late nights that I worked. He was a great man and I will miss my friend "Pops".

Uncle Mike
I remember all the Saturdays that I spent at your home with Bridget. There were many. I always like when October would roll around we would pile in your car Kenny On one side & Bridget on the other side & me in the middle. We would drive to the apple orchard & help pick apples for the Boy Scouts to sell. You always made me feel like one of the family. Taunte Jeannine you too always made me feel so like family. You were the best Godfather a girl could have ever had. Thank You for that & may you Rip In Peace Uncle Mike Love You .
Your Goddaughter
