Ballantyne, Spencer Thomas In his 99th year at Perth Ontario on Monday April 22, 2013. Beloved husband of Margaret (Peggy), son of the late Henry and Mabel Ballantyne, father of Gail (Murray), Lynn (David) and Bruce (Muriel). Survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Founder of Mechron Engineering Products Ltd. (more recently Mechron Power Systems division of Toromont Industries), a member of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club for over 50 years and one time active member of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. Spen was the first Business Person of the Year in 1974 and served on several boards in the Ottawa area including the Better Business Bureau, the Eastern Ontario Development Corporation, the Ottawa Board of Trade, the Commercial and Industrial Development Corporation and the Ottawa Hydro Commission. Our very special thanks to the staff at Carolina Retirement Suites and at the Perth Site, Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital for the excellent care they gave to Spen. A family memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Blair & Son, 15 Gore St. W. Perth on Sunday, April 28th, 2013 at 5:00 P.M. In remembrance, those wishing to honour Spen are asked to consider contributions to the Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation, 33 Drummond St. W. Perth K7H 2K1. A private interment will be held in Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa at a later date.
