To all of the Closs family, my sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved Ed. I always though of my own father when I saw Ed's outstanding gardens because I learned my reverence for the earth through gardening with my father. Ed understand a reverence for the earth in how he tended his flowers and vegetables. I'm sure that you will miss him greatly and I hope that your beautiful memories embrace you and bring you peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

A teaser
I remember Eddie from the time I was about 6 years old as always smiling and always teasing and always had a twinkle in his eyes! He was always kind and helped me often with gardening advice! I have plants in my cottage garden that he gave me and when I see them blooming I will always think of him! Heart felt condolences to Maxine and all the Closs family.

A kind and gentle soul
Eddie and Ona were long-time neighbours on the Third Line and good friends to Mother and Dad. I will remember Eddie's kind smile and quick humour as he greeted us at Calvin Church each Sunday morning. He always made time to stop and chat with the young people and he would tease me about flying past his house on my bike on my way to Carl Adams' swimming hole. He made a point to come over and chat with me at the church hall after my Dad's funeral and I won't forget his kind words and remembrances that day. He was a kind and gentle soul and I offer heartfelt sympathy from myself and all of the Stafford family.

Eddie
I first met Eddie and Ona (and George) when I was 12 years old, the preacher’s kid come to Dewitt’s Corners with her parents. I remember Eddie then as a gentle man with a constant twinkle in his eye and a small, wry smile, always quick with a comment or come back. I remember him trying to teach me how to balance a canoe at a park one Sunday afternoon when we all went on a picnic. I think it must have been the only thing he failed at, but he gave it a good shot, with good humour to boot. When I returned to the same church at the age of 35, now as the minister, Eddie was still there, with the same twinkle in his eye and a welcoming hug. He always had a kind and encouraging remark, and I never heard a word of condemnation or judgment from him. His last few years have been so unkind, so undeserving of a wonderful man. So Eddie, while I mourn the loss of your gentle spirit, I celebrate that your soul is now free to soar once again. And I think I see some absolutely beautiful carpentry work being done in Heaven in the not too distant future. Rest well, kind man, you so richly deserve your peace. To me, you truly were a genuine Lanark County gentleman.
