Donna and Devin, I am so very sorry for the loss of your mom, Patricia. Donna, I can only recall meeting her once while you two were shopping downtown Almonte. It was a pleasure to meet such a sweet woman and of course to see you after not seeing you in such a long time. My thoughts are with you both at this very difficult time.

Deev, how strong you've been through this entire time is a testament to the character that your mother imbued in you - never forget that she's always with you in the person that you've become through her love and guidance. I'm thinking of you and there are few hugs waiting for you when I see you.

To Patricia's childredn:
I remember Patricia from our Algonquin days as a gentle spirit with an amazing head of gorgeous, blond curls. Her thoughts in those days were always with doing the best for her children, and it must have been so hard for her to balance going back to school with the needs of her family. It took alot of courage and perseverance; her classmates admired her for that.

Patricia was a wonderful support as my late husband battled advanced prostate cancer. Although we were never able to meet in person, I considered her a treasured friend. Her strength and empathy helped women around the world. My sincere sympathy to her family.

Team Stratton,
I could go and on and on about the late night conversations I had with your Mom as she supported me while my husband battled with advanced Prostate Cancer... and she was right there again when he died lending support. I met her in Ottawa last September, her strength, determination and love of her family and Mark so evident. The legacy your Mom leaves behind is huge..

Devin, Donna and the family: Patricia was a most beautiful Angel and I shall never forget her. When my husband was battling prostate cancer, Patricia called me almost daily just to talk and let me cry and then she would always leave me with words that were powerful and loving and I knew I had a friend forever. When he died, she was the first one to call and we both cried. We were never fortunate to meet as one or the other of us could never manage to be in the same place but it really didn't matter, we were "sisters" in our daily battle to survive. Thank you for sharing your wonderful Mom with me and so many others. She is once again with her Marc and when the sun is shining, I will always believe it is Patricia beaming as she holds Marc's hand. God Bless you and cherish each and every beautiful memory of your Mom.

Devo,
When I think of your Mom I smile and laugh and then do it all over again. I think back of the times where good old Patty would just shake her head at us over a nice cup of coffee and a pizza at The Gourmet after a late night. She was a wonderful person, friend and Mom and someone I will never forget. Her positive attitude towards every day life is something that will always be remembered and never forgotten. All of my thoughts are with you and Donna.

Dear Devin, Donna and Family
I am so sorry for your loss and want you to know that a whole bunch of ladies from around the world share your grief. Your Mom spoke of you often, always with pride and love, and we came to know you through her. You have done her proud in every way, and she will always be with you: her warmth, her spirit, her courage and compassion.
We felt it too. As you know, she was part of a far flung network of women who came together online to help each other battle the effects of Prostate Cancer. Your Mom was a leader on our Forum, bringing us comfort, expertise and hope through thick and thin. We loved her and will always love her. She knew how to fix a broken tap, make a quilt, create a perennial garden, paint a house, comfort a sick pup, and soothe worried souls. She is with her Mark now and she will always be with us.
Love to you all,
Penny and the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

For the Stratton family - so very sorry for your loss. I had never met Patricia in person but through her daughter, Donna, I felt like I had known both of her parents for years. Donna always spoke very highly of both of her parents and as her parents look down on their children today, they know that they have left behind a wonderful legacy. Two beautiful children to carry on where they have left off.
Donna, I am here for you always. oxoxoxo

Deepest sympathies to Team Stratton....Though I never had the honor of meeting Patricia in person, she showed me such kindness and compassion, as she did to all the Sisters of the Traveling Pants. She was a voice of calm and grace for so many of us. I will never look out at my bird feeder again without thinking of Patricia and how she loved watching the birds. May all the beautiful memories of Patricia give you strength and get Team Stratton through this sad time....

Although we never met in person, I felt as though I had met and knew her well and feel I always will do. I hope you all gain strength from the memories you have of wonderful Patricia, love Janet

Dear Devin and Donna: It seems strange that out of a terrible disease can come good things, but your mom was just that. Her love, loyalty and compassion was unbridled, and I only wish I could have met her in person in Toronto last year. But as her porcelain heart says, "Blessed are women whose hearts and souls are joined together by laughter and tears for they shall be known as SISTERS." I am so honored to have known Patricia, and all of her Team Stratton.

Dear Dev,Donna,Tara and family. What a wonderful woman your Mom was, who loved and wanted nothing but the best of everything for you all. She was a leading light in the forum and helped all comers with such gentleness and love, even the most frightened of new members would become more calm and trusting with her suggestions and ideas of what might be a good move. It's such a gift to be able to help calm people who are experiencing a potentially life threatening disease and she was outstanding at it. Having heard her speak of you, there is no doubt in my mind that she loved you with all of her heart, and it seems to me that you too have her beautiful qualities. She will not be forgotten, but will live on in all of us in the forum with love and laughter, once we get through the dark days that are ahead.
Sleep tight my special Patricia, alongside your beloved Mark. Together again for eternity xxxx

Dear Team Stratton: Your mom and I became fast friends on the Forum when we realized how much my Dennis and her Mark had in common! They both left us too soon but before they did they sent many messages back and forth to each other through us. She was a spectacular host on the Forum --- always putting others before herself even in the pain of losing your dad. Her gentle wisdom, and understanding combined with her medical knowledge made her special to so many women around the world. I miss her greatly. Much love to you all. Kay - Northern California

Just want you to know your son is doing amazing, everything we always talked about so many years ago about me turning out to be a good man, you would be more than proud. I just want you to know life is good, success was a challenge but I did it. So many years passed without news but it is what is. Just know all is good now, you are in my thoughts, xoxo.

One of my fondest memories of my mum that I have is of the two of us being together as she gardened at our country home near Carleton Place. That was our peaceful place where we would sit and talk about everything while enjoying the peaceful sounds of the birds.
I know, without a doubt, that her biggest accomplishment was being a mother to her six children. My mum would often comment about always knowing that she wanted to have six children (three boys and three girls) and that’s exactly what she got. Although our mother was wonderful at other things (nursing, teaching, counseling, etc), I know she was most proud about being a mother to all of us: Donna, Andrea, Justin, Julian, Devin and myself. I will always hold the special moments that we had close to my heart. xox Larissa

A Poem for Patricia
Dearest Patricia,
Whenever I see lovers hand in hand, I will see you and Mark
Whenever I see a sky full of stars I will know you are there
Whenever I happen on
A quilt of many colours
Stitched with love
A wood pile in winter snow
The smell of new mown grass
The gentle hoot of an owl in the dark
A sunroom freshly painted
A wicker chair and steaming tea
Seeds planted for the spring
You will be with me
And most of all I will see
A tall man with a joyful smile
and a hand at your back.
With very much love,
Penny
