Our lives were enriched as we got to know Ken over the past four years. His love of family was evident in his words and actions. Sue was captivated by his story telling. We will always keep fond memories of Ken in our hearts. 1john 3:2. ...what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and dad. I remember that trip all the families took to Florida as it was yesterday and when Earl and I blew out my dad's car speakers listening to the radio waiting for the kapoke tree restaurant. Your dad was a part of my family growing up and was like having a second dad! I am very honored to have had your dad and your family in are lives all those years ago! Dear Eileen and family,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I just happened to glance at Sunday's obituaries today and was saddened to see Kenny's picture there. I know Mom (Ethel) had a special connection with Kenny and his family and I feel a loss for her, even though she is no longer with us.
I have always remembered his visits to our place when I was a young girl. He would come in his police uniform. He was so tall and imposing and I felt that I had to be on my best behavior. I was impressed by his big black shinny boots, his gun and holster, and police hat. He had such a soft voice and big smile that I could never imagine him getting angry with anyone and wondered how he every arrested anyone.
May the Lord bless you and keep you, may His face shine upon you, and give you peace.

Will Greer – Eulogy for Kenneth Earl Greer – September 30, 2013
"What lies behind us, and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us"
Ralph Waldo Emerson
We are here today to celebrate the life of a man, Kenneth Earl Greer.
I am William Greer. Ken was my Dad. I called him Pop.
I will speak to you about Ken's career. My Dad was a man of values. He was strong, honest and hard-working. He was a man of integrity, self-reliance, but humble and quiet.
When you got to know him he was funny, caring, empathetic, loving and was just a good guy. He has such a sense of life and energy.
He had a humble start, growing up working on a farm, in Maberly, attending a one-room school house. And when we were growing up we heard stories of Pop walking through the snow, on the trail through the busy to get to school.
Ken went to school until Grade 8 and then went to work on the railroad. He told us stories of working on a crew, swinging a sledgehammer. And I remember a great picture of him atop the Royal York Hotel, in Toronto, on a steel girder, with the Toronto skyline (what it was then!), in the background.
But, what Ken really wanted to do was to be a Policeman. He applied for the Toronto Police - after he got married - and finished school up to Grade 10 through correspondence.
We are honoured today with the presence of Law Enforcement. Local OPP are represented by Constables Guy Prevost and Mike Connolly. It would mean a lot to my Dad. Thank-you very much. I also want to mention Detective Sergeant Craig Bridgeman, who has been a great help, providing support and comfort to our family.
Dad told lots of stories. He talked about "walking the beat" in 10 Division. With humility he said, "you know, I was young and in pretty good shape in those days after working the railroad swinging a sledgehammer all day." On one of his first shifts he was walking along Front Street and met two big dock workers - he called them "longshoremen". My Dad was alone it was night time. And one of them out of the blue threw a punch at my Dad. My Dad ducked, the guy knocked the hat off my Dad's head. My Dad returned the favour, as he said, he caught him right on the chin, and put him flat-out on the ground. My Dad then turned to the second man and asked him, "Are we going to have a problem?". The man replied, "no".
My Dad went on to work in the Hold-Up Squad, the ETF, Homicide, and then the Auto Squad, and finally in the courts of Old City Hall. My Dad's skills developed beyond self-defense to include interrogations, investigations, and navigating the judicial system in T.O.
Growing up I was more than once on the receiving end of one of his investigations and interrogations - and I can tell you that he was good!
I spoke with my Dad's partner of 11 years, John Booth, who sends his condolences. He is recovering from surgery and was unable to attend. But he told me some stories and said that, "Ken was the best guy he ever worked with - solid as a rock. Ken was a man of his word and he could not have had a better partner and friend".
I attended by Dad's retirement dinner in 1984. His Inspector was there, Bill McKinnon - and he told me that my Dad, "was the hardest working cop he knew". That meant a lot to my Dad.
When my Dad retired it didn't mean that he stopped working. He returned to the farm in Maberly that he was born on. He built a barn, fenced many acres of fields, had horses, cows, pigs and chickens. He cut hay and he loved working with his hands and his tools, and liked keeping busy. He took very good care of his tools.
I remember about 20 years ago - he'd be in his 60's - he came up to my cottage to help shingle the roof. There was me, a friend, my brother-in law Jim, Ruth and my Mom. As we slept, my Dad woke up early, about 6AM, and very quietly fixed himself some breakfast. While all us young guys slept. He got his shovel, climbed up the ladder onto the roof, and started scraping off the old shingles. It was very loud and we knew it was time to get up and get to work!
My Dad lived his life. Lived his life consistent with his values, with personal integrity. And we were all honoured to have known him, to love him, and to have been part of his life.
I love you Pop. I will miss you and I know that you have peace and eternal happiness.
Thank-you.
