My sympathies go out to all Shirley's family at this sad time. I had the pleasure of looking after Shirley on a few occasions in the hospital on 3rd floor. She was an inspiration to me. A person who had gone through so much yet never complained. A person who over came great obstacles where others would have given up. Her spirit and strength will be always be remembered.

Fun at Shirleys

I remember all the great times as kids we had on Shirley and Vics hill with the tobaggons in the winter. We spent many winter afternoons and evenings on her hill. I will always remember her soft voice and her wisdom. She loved the little ones and I always made sure we visited her on halloween when the boys were small and she would laugh at their costumes. May God cradle you in his arms forever.

You will be missed

I only looked after Shirley for a short period of time she was a wonderful person with a great sense of humor. Had lots of laughs mostly at Gord's expense. You will be truly missed not only by your family, but friends and caregivers alike. Rest in piece Shirley.

Her sensitivity to suffering by others.

While reminiscing upon hearing of her death, this incident of her childhood came to mind. It was on a Sunday morning at the farm, and Ken was sitting at the kitchen table. He was about 19 or so, and had been at a dance somewhere the night before. Someone had been a bad boy and the police pinched him. Shirley--who was about five years old at the time--wondered why the cops had to pinch the guy. Couldn't they have just tickled him?
