Obituary of William Acheson Perkins

Perkins, William 'Bill' "A luminous light remains where a beautiful soul has passed"-Antoine Boveua Surrounded by family, following a courageous fight awaiting a liver transplant. He will be dearly missed by wife Joan (Taylor) and children Andrew (Jeannie), Jonathan (Eileen) and Mary Caroline. Dearly loved Pa of grandsons Declan and Ben Perkins and granddaughter Amelia Perkins. Beloved son to Joseph and Doris (Taggart) Perkins, both deceased, and son-in-law to Anna (Taylor) Coleman. Loyal and loving brother to Sherle Perkins and Harry Perkins (deceased), and brother-in-law to Liz Webster. Esteemed and loving uncle to Heather Perkins-McVey (David), Karen Brosso (Brian), Kathy Perkins and Joe Perkins (Tammy); Mark (Michelle), Barry (Patricia), and Harry (Katie) Webster. Greatly loved by many grand nieces and nephews. Graduated Perth and District Collegiate Institute, and earned his B.Comm. from McGill University (1963), where he played varsity football. Proud brother in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. A distinguished business career in transportation leading Taggart Services Limited as part of the Perkins family group of businesses, in warehousing, and in real estate sales with Coldwell Banker Sarazen Realty. He passionately loved his home town of Perth, Ontario and contributed greatly to it with enduring character, conviction, vigour and vision. Served as Rector's Warden and member of Parish Council at St James Anglican Church, President of the Chamber of Commerce, General Manager of Perth Blue Wings Hockey Club. Supporter and organizer of the Perth Festival of the Maples. Member of the Great War Memorial Hospital Board and active supporter of many other community initiatives throughout Lanark County and Eastern Ontario. Special family appreciation to doctors Stephanie Popiel, Stephen Moore and Robert Delgrande of Perth and the care teams at the Great War Memorial Hospital and Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus intensive care unit. Further thanks to the liver transplant team at Toronto General Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital for their constant support and encouragement. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. Perth on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008 from 2 to 5 & 6 to 8 P.M. Funeral service will be held in St. James Anglican Church, Perth on Wednesday at 11:30 A.M. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery. In remembrance, contributions to St. James Anglican Church, The Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus (ICU) or the Trillium Gift of Life Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
