Obituary of Marie Elizabeth Huffman
Huffman, Marie E.
Marie Elizabeth Huffman, 89, of Perth, passed away Thursday, August 13th, 2015 at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital. Born in Belleville, April 22nd, 1926, she was the daughter of the late George Henry and Ruby Matilda (Dibden) Duesberry. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph 'Ray' Huffman in 2005 and her younger sister Janet Burkett (Bill) in 2010. Marie was a graduate of the Ontario Business College in 1942 at 16 and a veteran of the Second World War in the Women's Army Corps achieving the rank of Sergeant at 18. When Ray returned from overseas, she and Ray were married March 16th, 1946 in Ottawa. She graduated from Queen's University in 1979 and became Head of the Business Department at Centennial Secondary School in Belleville for several years before retiring in 1987. She also coauthored two books on business education curriculum for the Ministry of Education. Marie and Ray sold their home in Prince Edward County in 1987 and then travelled for several years throughout Canada and the United States in their RV. They moved to Perth in 1988. Marie and Ray volunteered for several years in the federal prisons working with inmates with addictions. Marie was also on the board of Alwood House, a youth addictions centre. Marie will be remembered by her many friends in Belleville and area as well as the Perth and Smiths Falls communities. She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Jim) Barrie of Perth and Jackie (Brian) Condran of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; grandchildren, Brian (Guylaine) and Kathryn Condran (Brian; Robin (Mark) Barrie, Angela Barrie; and one great-grandchild, Aaron Barrie. She is also survived by two nieces and a nephew, Carol (Dean) Kemp, Colorado; Robert (Su) Burkett (British Columbia), and Karen (Jen) Burkett (Kingston). The family wishes to thank Dr. Ross McLean, Dr. DelGrande and the third floor nursing staff for their care, kindness and compassion. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. Perth on Monday, August 17th, 2015 from 6: 00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. Interment, St. John's Parish Cemetery, Perth. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
