I found out today that Jim Brady passed away and said no way when I heard his name. The short time I grew up in the Falls I fortunately had the opportunity to experience Jim through knowing chuck and playing football with the two in school yards close to their home.
I thank Jim for letting me be part of his life when it meant so much to me then and now.

Dearest Jewel and Family,
We are heartfully sorry for your great loss.
Jim was a good man always and enjoyed life so much with you and the family in Smiths Falls... In that beautiful home he had built for you all.
Love was always surrounding him with you and the children as he was so proud of each and every one of you . We had the honour to speak with him a couple of weeks ago and it was a wonderful conversation of friendship and love all around. He was always so Bouyant and full of good wishes for everyone .... We will miss him but he will always be in our hearts... A fine man who thought deeply of others. And we will never forget what a great and talented artist he was.
Love, Alan and Sherrie Cooper

Jim was a special person. Not only was he the keeper and teller of stories, he was fun and light-hearted as well.
Rick, my husband, worked with Jim as a paramedic. On my husband's last day before passing away, Jim was able to make him laugh as they shared a standard greeting (unprintable here!) What a wonderful gift.
I am thinking of all who have been touched by this man--so many. May he rest in peace.
I so wish I could visit or attend the funeral but I am away for the week. I will be there in spirit and I will be thinking of you.

Jewel, Erin, Brenda, and Jamie, and all of his loving family,
Words cannot express the sadness we feel over Jim's loss.
As a life-long friend, he brought many fond memories to Don, especially, having grown up with him and his siblings as neighbours and friends in Smiths Falls.
Huff, as we affectionally called him, was a special guy, not to be replaced or even replicated in the foreseeable future.
He was indeed a "rabble-rowser," as the family said, but that was part of why we loved him.
May God comfort you, Jewel and family, at this sad time and far beyond...
R.I.P Huff.

Dear Jewel and Brady Family, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Jim's passing. He was a good friend to my brother, Eldon and a great support to my family through some rough times. As you probably heard, I had a terrible crush on Jim when I was in my early teens. Looking back at Jim's life, I think it proved what good taste I had. I am glad that Jim ended up with you and that you had a beautiful life and family together.

The Sand Road Ranger

The only people the title will mean anything to are those grew up in the immediate area. We were raised in the Wartime Housing along Sand Road (now Queen Street). Because he was a few years older, and a Catholic to boot, to me Jim was the neighbourhood "big guy" I admired, respected and feared.

When we became adults, we were employed by the Rideau Regional Centre. This is when our friendship began to develop. He, Don Turcott and I migrated to the Smiths Falls Ambulance Service where our frindshp cntinued to grow. We were often referred to as The Three Musketeers.

Jim had a sense of humour that went above and beyond. He loved pranks. I sometimes think that he believed that this was his actual calling. His pranks were planned and carried out with great detail. I wll not elaborate because it might incriminate Jim, me and several other unidentified persons. Jim could laugh just as hard when he was the one being pranked.

The one thing I didn't realize back then was that when Jim became your friend...you had a frind for life. He was my support when Linda and I married and never judged either of us when we separated. He was our daughter Leslie's Godfather. He adored her and often came to visit when she was a baby. He liked to share the story tha she was the only girl he held in his arms while she pulled his beard, puked on him and smiled at him all at the same time.

Jim provided caring support and encouragement when my older sister met an untimely death. He made certain I was OK when many years later, my son took his own life. A couple years ago, when Leslie was fighting for her life in the Kingston General Hospital while she waited for a liver transplant, Jim made several visits and multiple phone calls to check on her progress and have his love relayed to her.

My deepest regret is that I didn't get to see Jim before he passed. I did get to talk with him a few days earlier. We talked about serious things and laughed at some of the weird things we did together when we were younger. The best thing was that after more than fifty years, we were finally able to vocalize that we had a love that made us closer to being brothers than just friends.

Goodbye Jim. I love you. Be at peace.
