Dear Vickie and family. I was so saddened today when Joshua advised me of Dave's death. I will treasure not only the work we did together on council but our last conversation at the Capitol Centre a few years ago. I don't need to tell any of you how unique he was and what a legacy he has left. On behalf of my family - my children valued him greatly as their teacher - please accept our deepest sympathy.

I am terribly sorry to learn of Dave's passing. I will remember Dave as a smart, generous and forgiving friend and a trusted colleague. I am reminded of my mother's words: "Forever near us tho unseen his dear immortal memory treads, for all the boundless universe is life- there are no dead." To you Vicki, David and Michelle and families my deep sympathy.

Vicki......so sorry for your loss. David and I spent many happy and memorable hours on the farm, fishing on the Rideau River. I vividly recall the time when David caught a ginormous bull frog on his line that lodged itself in his hand while he was attempting to take it off the hook - Mother and I drove David to the hospital and he he sang (all the way there) " Heave Ho Blow The Man Down" while hanging onto the frog (with thhis free hand) trying to prevent it from jumping again. While we have grown apart the memories linger on. You would be hard pressed to find a bigger David fan than my mother and her feelings for David. Those feeling spilled over to those of us who did not have the immediate exposure that Mother had - we were fans. So this message is also on behalf of "Aunt Dode" If there is ever anything Vicki that we can help you with we will be happy to do. Lovingly Ruth and Fred and Aunt Dode.

North Himsworth Council

I was part of the council team that served with Dave as our Reeve in the 1990s. The Callander website has a brief description of Dave's contribution to the community. It is too modest a description because it does not reflect that during the tenure of his leadership, the municipality adopted its first official plan paving the way for a new subdivision and golf course, established a new water treatment plant, updated the waterfront park, navigated the murky waters of amalgamation, and signed an agreement for police coverage with the city of North Bay to name a few more.

However, I believe his term of office should be remembered for the senstivity he brought to dealing with the less fortunate in the community and for the levity he brought to certain critical moments. Remember Y2K? While North Bay bunkered down in tight quarters to await calamity on New Years Eve, North Himsworth carried on with the annual party at the Community Centre.

I, for one, appreciated his willingness to participate in a fundraiser dressed in drag as "Old Spice" and lyp sync to Spice Girls even if it didn't come to fruition due to the reluctance of his male peers on council! "...so it's the laughter we will remember whenever we remember the way we were..." RIP
