Obituary of Bernadette Carmel Theresa McPherson
McPherson, Bernadette (McParlan)
June 1st, 1924 - September 8th, 2019
On September 8, 2019 at 8:30 P.M. Bernadette Carmel Theresa McPherson (McParlan) roller skated through the gates of heaven to join her parents Philip J. McParlan and Marcella M. (White) McParlan and her little brother Frederick J. McParlan. Mom leaves behind her 6 children Allan (Eileen) McPherson, Mike (Judy) McPherson of Perth, Peter (Marjorie) McPherson of Sudbury, Stephen (Melanie) McPherson of Kingston, Connie (Peter) Batoff and Ed (Kim) McPherson of Perth. Grammie also leaves behind her adoring grandchildren: Jackie and Larry Dixon, Timothy McPherson, Allison and Daniel Batoff, Kent, Callie and Brock McPherson and Kevin McPherson. Mom's life totally revolved around her family, she was always there for them. Mom's early years were spent enjoying weekends at Grandma and Grandpa White's farm on Long Lake where she, her brother Fred and numerous cousins enjoyed warm, sunny days filled with love and laughter. She was born and lived at her home at 162 Gore St. East which was renumbered to 196 Gore St. East for the first 87 years of her life and moved to Lanark Lodge in November of 2012.
Mom's fabulous sense of humour was enjoyed by her family, friends and the staff and fellow residents of the lodge. She was totally giving of herself to all those she encountered throughout her long life, she made everyone feel welcome in her home. Some things that you might not know about our mom: her favourite colour was blue, she used to stay up late to flood our outdoor rink so that we could play hockey with all the neighbourhood kids, she played the piano (her brother Fred played the fiddle), she worked at McKinnon and Sons and in later years at Ellenvale Acres for the developmentally handicapped where she gave her unconditional love to all the children, but most important of all she constantly gave of herself even if it meant not having enough for herself. She was one of the reasons that God made angels, he wanted the most loving people by his side. We will miss her dearly; her smile, her laughter, her sarcasm, her hugs, her funny sense of humour but most importantly her love. Love and miss you, your family.
Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 11th, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. A Chapel service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. Interment St. John's Parish Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Blair & Son Family Centre. In remembrance of Bernadette, contributions to St. John's Church or Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) would be appreciated.
