I was so sorry to just learn of the passing of our dear Joan. She was a wonderful, kind, caring, and loving lady. And she is greatly missed.
She is now with her Jim who she loved so much. It does my heart good to think of them together again. Only this time, they are walking together through lush fields holding hands and a heaven with no MS.
You were a member of the MS Rogues Joan, and you were one of the Roguishly sweet ladies I knew. Hold us all a spot in the "NO MS ZONE" we'll see you there someday.
Love ya Joanie and miss you so much.

Joanne Oostveen posted a condolence
While having my morning coffee here in Dartmouth I came across the obituary of a woman who made a huge impact in my life. Joan Kennedy Carter was my nurse back in 1991 when I gave birth to our third daughter in Halifax. Our precious girl had spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Nurse Joan was an angel who came into our lives and kept us sane, gave us hope and provided so much compassion and love that we came to look upon her as a gift from above. For the duration of our time at the IWK and even when we would run into her in later years she was always interested in our lives and remembered our names.
I think that when we leave this earth we all wonder if we have made this world a better place or whether or not we have made a difference. There is no doubt that Joan's time on this earth meant the world to many people. But also, she will never be forgotten by those lives she has touched who were not family, who were lucky enough to have met her when we needed a bright light and a hand to hold. Thank you Joan, for being there, for loving us enough until we could love ourselves again.
