Blair, Laura and Joe, my thoughts are with you and your family. Ruth was a friend and co-worker that I will miss dearly. Ruth had a golden heart and it showed around Lanark Lodge as she touched the lives of many residents, volunteers and co-workers throughout her career at the Lodge. Ruth will be deeply missed by many who live and work under one roof. Take care of each other at this difficult time.

Dear Blair,Joseph and Laura: I was sorry to hear if Ruth's passing in the Halifax paper today. I first met Ruth in my freshman year at Acadia in 1971. I lived next door to Ruth and Gail my first year at Dennis House. We had many happy times together throughout our years at Acadia. Ruth was always very cheerful and ready for action. I was able to catch up with Ruth a few years ago when she visited Halifax and we reconnected with Marie and Gail. She spoke lovingly of her family. As usual,Ruth was upbeat and positive of her future. I love the picture you chose to have in the paper, it is so "Ruth" with her wonderful smile. I will be thinking of you all today.

I worked with Ruth for 15 years at Lanark Lodge on the nursing staff. I will always remember her. I will remember her laugh, her unbeatable work ethic and her immense pleasure in caring for others. She had a HUGE heart and always had the residents as her number one priority. When I left the Lodge five years ago, I always seemed to see Ruth at the grocery store and she was always after me (being a member of the Perth Band) to approach our Executive to get the band to come out to the Lodge and play again and again because the residents "loved us coming". She was always "on the job". I will have Ruth's spirit in my heart everyday. You have experienced such a loss that no one will be able to replace. Her spirit will always be with you, in your heart and minds. You are not alone in your sorrow. Hugs and my most sincere condolences.

Dear Blaire, Joe and Laura
I am sending my deepest condolences to you all at this time. I worked with Ruth for many, many years. I first worked with her on nursing and Joe, she talked of you often with much love. Laura, she was so proud of you. You are a sweet girl with a long life without a mom. It will be hard but talk to her, she will always be near. Blaire, whenever she spoke of you, it was with the biggest smile she could muster. Ruth was a unique person who took her work seriously. She was passionate about her resident's at Lanark Lodge. I would often tell her she needed to slow down as her brow was wet from perspiration. She would acknowledge that she should "but I have so much to do". I respected her work ethic and the fact that she kept on going regardless of some of the roadblocks and challenges she faced. She was one of the best and although I no longer work at Lanark Lodge, I will think of her often, of her smile, her laugh, her tenacity to do everything she could for every resident at Lanark Lodge. She made a difference and set the bar high. It is going to be a long hard road but your pain will be replaced by the love and joy she brought to all of you.

Dear Blair, Laura and Joe,
We are so sorry that Ruth has passed away. So hard to believe so fast. We will miss her visits to our house, her smile and laughter. The long chats with cousin Harold. She was the one to always head something up for a get together or bonfire on the beach. Ruth welcomed us into her home a few summers ago and we all had such a great time. We will cherish the pictures we took there.
Laura and Joe have lost their mother too soon in life. And you Blair have lost your best friend. Sorry we can not be there for the funeral but please know that you are all in our thoughts.

I had the pleasure of knowing Ruth at Lanark Lodge through my volunteering there during the past few years. We happily discovered that we were distantly related through the Bent clan, and grew up only a few miles from each other in N.S.
The atmosphere at the Lodge will not ever be the same without Ruth's infectious smile, her hearty laugh, and her compassionate devotion to the residents and the tropical fish.
I share in the family's sorrow at this terrble time, and hope that with time will come acceptance and peace.

Blaire, Laura and Joe:
Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time. It is always very difficult to say goodbye suddenly and it is with our deepest regrets that we send this with the sudden passing of Ruth.
When Ruth was at Acadia University, a few years ago, I had the great fortune of having her as a babysitter. She was always my cousin with a luminary smile, huge sense of humour and the ability to lift my spirits. This luminosity lives on in Laura and Joe and much of it has rubbed off on Blaire!
I hope to see you all very soon to again share wonderful moments as a family. Take care of yourselves and lots of love.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say... but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you." It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on. I need you here badly; you're part of my plan. There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man. God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight. God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er. I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too... that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain, then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain." And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile, knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go. When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind; I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free, remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me. Dear Blair,Joe,and Laura-My heart goes out to you with the loss of Ruth. I had the privilege of getting to talk with her at the last Bent Family Reunion. Ruth was one of those people with a smile that goes on forever,a sparkle in her eyes as she would recount some funny story about someone and a persona that immediately drew people to her. It was very evident that she loved her family and her roots deeply. I am blessed to have been given the chance to see her again. I pray that all the memories of her and how much she meant to SO many people will give you comfort in the coming months.
