I am just seeing this now, too late to tell her goodbye, too late to reconnect and too late reminisce about our years together back in the late '80's. She was a truly caring, generous and giving person who helped me through some hard times during some turbulent years. We lost touch and only reconnected much later in life, but I knew she was happy, she was loved, and she had not changed or been jaded by life. I know for a fact that she undoubtedly faced her cancer with strength, dignity and perseverance. She was my first love then a great friend and now a happy memory.

About three years ago, I reached out on social media to see if anyone knew of Gaye Ansell from Ottawa who was one of my closest friends during my art school days in Ottawa 1986-87. I was saddened today when my searching brought me to the news of her passing only months ago. Honestly, I wish our paths crossed, and wish I could have known about her journey. I will miss her. Gaye was vibrant, creative, loving, caring and my art companion. We would take photo excursions, talk it up in cafes, go to church, etc.

Dear Brian - Although we have never met, Gaye had so many wonderful things to say about you during our many talks at lunch in the staff room at W.O. Mitchell. She also had sage advice for me on more than one occasion and a beautiful laugh to brighten anyone’s day. A few of my friends and I gave Gaye her special quilt when she was first diagnosed and I was able to visit with her at your home and here, at my home, last year. I was so sorry to hear the news of Gaye’s passing this week. Please know my thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

: Dear Brian and family, although I only knew Gaye for a short time as a colleague and friend at WO Mitchell, she had a huge impact on my life. We met at a time where I was under a lot of stress and was suffering from severe anxiety and depression. Gaye was my rock during that time. Always there with a listening ear and always encouraging me to take care of myself first. She was so kind and compassionate during my difficult year. I will always be grateful for her friendship and non judgmental approach. I will fondly remember her laugh, our shared love for owls (she is my owl scarf twin) chats about life and our short time together as colleagues and friends. “The best kind of people are the ones that come into your life, and make you see the sun where you once saw clouds. The people that believe in you so much, you start to believe in you too. The people that love you, simply for being you. The once in a lifetime kind of people” Gaye was a one of a kind person and she will be missed by everyone who knew her. Sending you all light and love during this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Gaye at A. Lorne Cassidy E.S. She was always there to lend an ear, make you smile when you needed it or share her wisdom. She also taught my children and they loved her. Our family sends our condolences to Brian and Gaye's family.

Just looking at her picture I can tell she was a great gal. So young to leave this world. Obviously God has other plans and needs her. Wishing you the strength to get through this sad time and loss. We are so sorry for your loss. Gaye was indeed a wonderful person. Her heart was as big as forever. She was so generous with her time and many talents. She was a loyal friend and always treated her students with love, dignity, and respect. She could do it all, kindergarten to intermediate, and students needing particular attention or care. A favourite memory of mine is walking into her grade 7 class and seeing a huge planter filled with beautiful lettuce that the students had grown. What a wonderful way to inspire children to care for our planet, garden, and grow their own food. She had a hearty laugh and a beautiful smile. She will me missed.

My deepest condolences are to Mrs. Ansell-Gosselin's loved ones at this time. I am very truly sorry for your loss. I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Ansell-Gosselin as my grade 7 elementary school teacher at ALC. I vividly recall how she was so caring, passionate, loving, and kind. She taught her students, including myself, so many important life lessons that one cannot learn in a textbook. She always encouraged us to treat others with nothing but kindness, and to be accepting. She had such a beautiful heart. I will always remember, she taught our class that we should always buy fair-trade chocolate or clothing if we can, and to buy second hand clothing. She was truly an outstanding teacher, and phenomenal human being. She truly touched the hearts of many. I send my prayers and strength to her loved ones. She will be truly missed
