Debbie, Bill and families: My sincere condolences on Harold's passing. I had the good fortune of working for Harold on the farm when I was a kid and since then always looked forward to running into him when I was around Lanark as he always had a story to tell.
I will always remember my first solo drive to Perth was in Harold's blue Chev cattle truck. It was a good weather day and Harold had a full day planned and wanted to get as much hay in as possible but he had to get some calves to the sale barn in Perth. Harold and I went and loaded the calves into the truck and then he gave me instructions on what to do with the calves when I got to the sale barn. I wasn't sure if Harold knew that I didn't have a drivers licence yet, so I thought I better tell him. Harold looked at me and said, well if you don't tell anyone neither will I. So off I headed to Perth, hoping that my own father wouldn't see me driving by our house in Lanark on my way and at the same time thinking how cool it was to be driving on my own - got the calves delivered and returned home unscathed - my first solo trip to Perth!
Harold was a true gentleman and a salt of the earth guy. My sincere condolences.
