Obituary of Harold "Red" Alexander Hart
Hart, Harold "Red"
Harold "Red" Hart passed away at Lanark Lodge, early Saturday, November 10th, 2018 surrounded by family. Harold is survived by his wife Clare, children Lesley, Peter (Janet) and George, and grandchildren Laura, Robert, Graham, Fiona and Allison. Harold is also survived by his sisters Elizabeth Courneya, Ruth Macfie and Mary Geddes, and many nieces and nephews. Born and raised on a farm in Milford Station, NS, Harold "Red" Hart was a generous, incredibly kind man who will be warmly and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. His good nature and easy sense of humour informed his view of life and how he interacted with people and dealt with difficulties. Harold had the very best of smiles that not only brought out the twinkle in his eye, but made you smile back. A positive role model to many, Harold taught by example the importance of giving his time in service to his community. He especially enjoyed working with his church and local service groups, and, in his youth, with the Scouts. Harold served 31 years in the military, joining the RCAF as a pilot in 1952, flying F-86 Sabres, then training pilots for many years, finishing in an administrative position in Summerside, PEI. After leaving the military, Harold worked 10 years in the PEI Highway Safety Division. He loved Prince Edward Island and thoroughly enjoyed his years living there. Music was a lifelong joy for Harold. He started playing the guitar at a young age, he had a wonderful singing voice, and he spent a lifetime entertaining friends and family at every opportunity. In later years, he particularly enjoyed singing in his church choir and with the men's quartet. Our family would like to express our thanks and appreciation to all the staff who provided excellent and kind care to Harold at Lanark Lodge, Perth Community Care Centre, the Perth Enrichment program, and the GWM Hospital. As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private celebration of Harold's life will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Trinity United Church in Summerside PEI, or to Lanark Lodge Memorial Fund in Perth, ON.
