Kevin died way too young. I know him through my maternal aunt, Verneck Bonnick, who carried a photo of Kevin as a young man, along with a handful of favourite photos she kept. Kevin was intelligent, helpful, funny, generous, curious, and kind. He talked of his girls who lived far away and told me he wished they lived closer or he could see them more often. He spoke of his son with love and affection. He admired his colleagues, his carreer, loved his pooches, his sugar shack, his Apple trees, his field, his forest, his path. He loved Verneck and we had fun visits to his house, me with a car-load of neices/nephews, or with Jaana; he and Verneck giving us tours of the property. Generous with Apple juice, crab-apple jelly, pizza dinner and always a great conversation. Kevin once pulled a 5-Mark note out of his wallet (old Finnish currency) and gave it to me (my partner is Finnish and I lived there for many years), and said he didn't know why he was carrying it around for more than 20 years, but that it was probably to give to me and Jaana, as a good memory. He also gave us a mirror, from the yard sale, and a few old window frames. All put to use at my cottage near Perth. I have many more memories of times with him. Our friendship was short-lived. Kevin is deeply missed by me, and our family. A real loss. Andrée Cooligan

It was a real sad day to hear about Kevin’s death. I worked with Kevin for many years at Albany but spent a lot of time with him and Pat socially, he was great guy and he’ll be missed. Lily and my thoughts and wishes go to Pat, Erin and Nicole and their extended families. Kevin once told me the loveliest sound to hear is the laughter of his grandchildren ,what a great comment and typical of the guy I knew.

To All of Kevin's Family and Friends who made him proud and enriched his life:
It was with sadness I read of Kevin's death. Thru the years I'd heard Kevin's name...my sister, Margaret, was a teacher of his in North Onslow; my sister Dorothy and her husband Milton Cooligan knew Kevin from his years at Capital Wire. I only heard good things about him. We became FB friends about 6 years ago thru Kevin seeing my name on a mutual friend's page and not hesitating to ask 'WHO are you?'. I then actually met Kevin when he came to the visitation when Margaret died, and then again at his 80th birthday celebration. Over the years we commented on FB posts and emailed jokes and stories about the Pontiac, as well as 'talking' about life...past, present, future. We had some common interests .. maple syrup and it was a method Kevin used in collecting that we began to use from his advice, the deer and birds at the feeder, and the great Leonard Cohen .. turns out we both liked 'Closing Time'. I'd like to think that song was playing in the background as Kevin left his family and friends who had made him so proud and happy thru his lifetime. With Sincere Sympathy, Joan (Campbell) Payne

We moved away prior to the passing of Kevin but, oh how I miss the Wednesday night Poker games with Kevin and the guys, where we learned the Daley shuffle and Marlene always made the devil eggs that Kevin loved. Whenever we think of Kevin we think of the good times. Our condolences go out to the whole family and he will always be remembered by us.

Our deepest condolences to Pat, Nicole, Mark, Erin and Veronique. We were very sad to hear about the passing of your dad. Kevin was a wonderful dad to his children Nicole, Mark and Erin. He would post many pictures of his kids/grandkids on Facebook. His love for his Maple Sugar Bush and his cute little dog was very evident with the many pictures he would post.
Keep those beautiful memories of your dad very close to your hearts, he will always be with you.

To Kevin's family and many friends. You have all lost a great guy. I worked with Kevin at Albany Perth for many years before his retirement. His tribute is so beautifully written, and I find it hard to believe that he retired in 1998, as his presence was felt for years afterward and his name came up often in conversation until I retired in 2017 - due to his many contributions to the corporation. Kevin kept in touch by email, but it was always the best part of my day when I would run into him downtown, and we would just stop - and have a grand old chat, about everything from politics and the local gossip to our growing families and grandchildren. He was so proud of his family. I will miss him.

My three most vivid and happy memories of Kevin for me...
1. He always had a smile on when I saw him ( and probably a drink in his hand)
2. He could never hear a damn thing anyone said the first time - you always had to quickly say what you wanted to say to him, wait for the “heh?”, then repeat yourself - it was a process.
3. He introduced me to his sugar shack which was warm, dimly lit, mysterious and fun - and friggin hot - but the best discovery in his sugar shack was the beautifully creative Johnny Canuck - half boiled sap and crown royal - brilliant, delicious and innovative - always tastes like another.
Nicole, Erin, Mark - I experienced your Dad as a lovely, kind man with all the flaws of a beautiful human being...as Leonard Cohen said...
“Ring the bells that still can ring,
Forget your perfect offering,
There is a crack, a crack in everything,
That’s how the light gets in.”
I am so sorry for your loss and hope you can focus on the memories that you hold dear with your Pop.
Gone but never forgotten.
Lots of love from everyone here in Guelph.
Eric
PS - what a great pic of him

I had the good fortune to be able to learn and work with Kevin for a number of years in the Albany Perth manufacturing facility.
Always a positive influence, good hearted, a great teacher and willing to jump in to help anyone get the job done. He was a very creative genius and a great family person. I had the good fortune to visit the sugar shack a number of times with my family after Kevin had retired. He always made us feel welcome. We will miss him but I know he is up in heaven smiling down on his family and friends. Tom Ashmore
