I first met Bruce in 1986 when I joined the team at the Stittsville Depot of the Carleton Board of Education. I admired Bruce's quiet, friendly and respectful manner in which he treated his staff. Bruce and I shared a love of family and of the outdoors, and I enjoyed our conversations. I will always remember Bruce for his kindness and compassion during a time of personal crisis, and how sharing my story with him was life-changing. He was close to the same age as my dad would have been at the time had
he been alive, and I respected his wisdom and much appreciated his sincere concern. My career took me in another direction, and I regret that we didn't keep in touch. Please know that I share in your sorrow of profound loss of your father and grandfather, as my mother passed away the following week. We find comfort in the treasured memories of our Mom, and knowing she also left us a legacy of love and compassion. May it be a comfort to know you are not alone, and are in the thoughts and prayers of others.

I met Bruce soon after I moved to Perth in 2003, when I joined the Rideau Trail hiking club. I remember participating in hikes and canoe/kayak outings led by Bruce. He not only led some interesting and challenging outings but was a dedicated volunteer who worked hard at maintaining the hiking trails, designing and building bridges where needed.
I discovered we were both in the same class at Elmdale School in Ottawa a long time ago - but neither of us remembered each other!
He will be missed.

I met Bruce in 2004 when we were both on a Rideau Trail trip to Vermont. Immediately I recognized his compassion for his family and friends as well as his zest for life and all the adventures it offered.
Over the years our paths crossed at outdoor events and later in lunches. I spoke with Bruce the Saturday before he died; so shocked that it was to be our last visit. My condolences to his family and to Ruth.

I first met Mr. Gourley when I was 9 years old. As a child I felt a little nervous around him... that quiet, low voice. As I grew up, it wasn't hard to see that behind the soft voice and quiet demeanor was a man who was wise, funny, and loved the outdoors. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren; you could see it when he looked at them. I'll miss his dry sense of humour and that low chuckle when he cracked a joke.

My sincere condolences to Bruce's family and friends. I met and got to know Bruce through Probus Club. He was always very friendly and enjoyed attending Social events that I have had the privilege of organizing for Probus over the years. From time to time I would meet up with Bruce at Carolina. Bruce was an interesting conversationalist. May all of your cherished memories help you to grieve as we celebrate Bruce and his interesting life.

We were parishioners with Bruce at St. James. Although soft spoken, he had a razor sharp sense of humour. He was a really nice person and we will miss him.
