Hi Karen and Dan
I just saw in the paper that your Dad had passed. I was so sorry to see that.
He was a character I will always remember. Of course going to school with you Karen seems so very long ago, but
I met your Dad last summer at his home on the Rideau.
We had such a nice visit, and I am so happy he was able to live his life out at the place that meant so much to him
and your Mom.
You have such great memories, of the Rideau and the Apple Orchard. Thinking of you.

Dear Dan & Karen and your families, I am so sorry to read of the passing of your dad. I knew him my entire life. I have so many fond memories of flying in his 1946 Taylorcraft float plane off of Pike Lake at home. He was always so full of energy and had that sparkle in his eye. There was never a dull moment when he was around. I will miss him dearly.

Doris and I moved here recently and have met Fred at the mailbox often and at socials at the Leslie's. An engaging man with a firm handshake and warm disposition. Doris also assisted with Fred's treatments at Perth Hospital in her volunteer role there. It was a pleasure to know him and we would to like to send the family our sincere condolences.

We want to add our sincere condolences to Karen and Dan and their families. At the same time, we would like to say Good Bye and Farewell to our good friend and neighbour Fred. Thank you for showing us all the beautiful things on Big Rideau Lake, taking us in your plane or for a snowmobile ride, welcoming us in your lovely cottage and looking after the wellbeing of our local loons nesting on the platform you built and rebuilt. The lake will not be the same without you.

Condolences to the family. Simon and I have fond memories of both Fred and Bunny. Simon always enjoyed listening to Fred’s latest exploits into the great outdoors, including his many hunting adventures. I will especially miss Fred’s smiling face and jokes on Sunday mornings as he faithfully stood at the church entrance selling gift certificates to raise much needed funds, and then later sharing a coffee and treat after church. It was a pleasure to serve with him on the Stewardship Committee several years ago. Fred was one of those bright lights, ever energetic and good humoured. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
With sympathy for your loss, Carolyn and Simon Lunn

Fred will be really missed on our shoreline. He was the resident expert on all things in our area—birds, animals, fish, weather, seasons, people, ... He leaves a big gap in so many aspects of our lives, not to leave out the fact that he was a good friend to all.

Mom and I are both very sad to hear of Fred's passing. We have so many fond memories of both he and Bunny from their days on Kilmarnock Island. I believe the last time we saw Fred was at J. B. Garton's last birthday gathering at the building in Lower Reach Park.
Danny and Karen and families - our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Your Dad was one heck of a guy and had a wonderful sense of humour. May he rest in peace.
With fond memories, Joan and Heather Hughes

To Dan, Karen and Families:
I would like to pass on my condolences to you on the death of of your father, Fred Haughton. Fred and I went through High School in Smiths Falls together, but I moved away at that time to attend Teacher's College and never returned except to visit my family and to attend High School reunions. I have been living in Newfoundland since 1961, and Fred and Bunny visited me here in Mount Pearl twice. Fred used to come to Nfld. to go moose hunting as well.
In recent years, Fred and I talked by phone every few months, and he kept me up to date on the Smiths Falls news. My
daughter, Sue and I visited Fred and Bunny at their cottage on the Big Rideau, a beautiful spot. He was a great friend and will be sadly missed by all his friends and family. I hope 2021 will be a kinder year for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love and Best Wishes,
Jean Meeker

My deepest condolences to the Haughton family for their loss. Fred, to me, was an inspiration. He was a magnanimous man, who “left no stone unturned”. He lived his life to the fullest and tried to “leave no stone unturned.” I’m certain he will be sorely missed. I was pleased to hear he was able to fulfil his wish, to be in his home, on Big Rideau. Fred, let your spirit sore higher than before and watch over the flock you have left behind. I know Bunny will be their to greet you.

Dear Karen & Dan, I am so sorry to hear about the your Dad. Man he had such an infectious personality and I loved every year when he would show up on my door step with a birthday card! That meant a lot to me that he would remember and take the time to hand deliver it. He enjoyed a great life with your Mom and I know he has missed her. I met up with him not too long ago and had a nice little visit. It was nice to see him and I actually commented to him about the birthday cards. Fly High Fred! Take care. Fred was a wonderful neighbour with a great sense of humour! He was very active with the church always coming by to make sure we were able to buy some pies or to sponsor him on his walks for ALS for Bunny. He came by on his 4 wheeler to tell us that he was not going to get anymore "full tanks" as he referred to his blood transfusions, that he was "going out on his own terms". I guess that was his goodbye. He loved the lake. I remember when he drove his new pontoon boat to the antique boat show at the Rideau Ferry. I will remember him driving his tractor on R9 to help with road repairs. Rest in Peace old friend. You are now reunited with your beloved Bunny. With sincere condolences to his family and friends, Christine and Joe Love. We will remember you fondly!

so sorry to hear of Fred's passing. I met Fred at our senior exercise class at the Industry gym a few years ago and we quickly became friends. He was kind and gentle, full of fun and always had a joke for us to share. I ran into him in the fall while at the hospital and knew he had health issues but still shocked when I read his death announcement. My thoughts and prayers are with Freds family but remember that he was a great, well liked fella!
