Dear Fran and family: Our family is saddened with the news of Don's passing. I fondly remember back to the late 50's early 60's when the T-bird did the fly-by of the family farm; just to check on the crops. He was a great neighbour and friend to our Rhian. Respectfully Jane,Richard,Alice,Jim,Charles and Rahel.

It is sad that one of my mentors and a great leader has left us. He is now in his ultimate reward in heaven. He truly is missed by those who had the privilege to serve under his leadership. Great man gone to the Air Force in the sky.

Dear Frances and family,
I had the privilege to serve under LGen McNaughton on several occasions. He was a leader of leaders to say the least and above all els, always made one feel valued and instrumental in all matters Air Force and personal. He was the very definition of leadership by example.....he always lead by example.
In retirement, he was no different and I enjoyed the honour of his wisdom, encouragement and support in various capacities. The community as a whole is greater for all yours and Franes’ many selfless contributions.
My heartfelt and most sincere co dolences are extended to you Frances and all your family.

Dear McNaughton Family.
Loraine and I extend our sincerest condolences to the entire McNaughton family on the loss of LGen McNaughton. He was always welcoming and genuinely interested in sharing a few words and stories whenever we met over the years, and a great leader and aviator for whom I have always had the deepest admiration and respect. One of those General Officers that anyone and everyone always called a true "gentleman and a scholar”. LGen McNaughton’s loss will be deeply felt by all members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the many foreign officers and non-commissioned members who had the pleasure of getting to know him, especially those in Colorado Springs. LGen (Ret’d) McNaughton will be deeply missed. In deepest respect, Gen (Ret’d) Raymond Henault and Loraine Henault

Lynn and I have come to know Don and Fran through the Perth PROBUS Club. They are a couple whose world view, life experience and combined character we greatly admire.
Don, through diligence, sustained effort and skill achieved a very significant rank in the RCAF. He no doubt applied life skills and a work ethic learned and gleaned from his roots in rural Lanark County.When his career with the RCAF was complete he returned to those roots, continuing to serve his community and his country while maintaining a wonderful dry humour, humility and gentlemanly/gracious ways. He pursued a satisfying lifestyle with his horses and his hunting. His is a model for a current crop of young officers to aspire to.
Fittingly, he will remain with the land and society which made him the fine man that he was.
A life well lived with grace and character.

Dear Fran and family
We are sorry to learn of Don's passing. We have very fond memories of your family, next door in Winnipeg, almost next door in Gimli. Our children played together when we were young, we saw each other at the Sabre reunions and kept in touch by other means, through cards and friends. Visiting your farm near Perth was very special to us. Don will be missed by all who knew him and especially all your family. Sending love and deep condolences, Myrna and Russ

Dear Fran & Family;
Our condolences to all - as a high school friend and my discussion with Don on the phone some time later regarding a possible joining the Air Force (which did not happen in my case), and after his retirement and return to the Perth area, I finally also retired and also returned to Perth; and finally re-established our friendship - He will be missed by all.

Dear Fran & Family: I remember Don with great affection. I believe I was his first student as he began his instructor duties on Harvards. I think we were about the same age and recall the competition of the smoothest landing, Don from the back seat and me up front. I was most pleased to met him and Fran at our many SPAADS gathering.
Once again, my deepest sympathies. Glenn

I have very fond memories of Lt. General McNaughton...I was his Crew Chief on Smoky 02 in Colorado, USA. He was the DCINC appointed to NORAD. I remember one day when the General went jogging and dropped into the hangar to see how Smoky was doing? It took me by surprise because I was a newly promoted Sgt..just posted in from Ottawa, 412 Squadron. He impressed me with his direct approach and his gentlemanly manner. It was my utmost pleasure to work for and be a part of the McNaughton era...Per Ardua Ad Astra, Sir...RIP.
