Obituary of Robin Roland Newton
NEWTON Robin Roland
5th December 1939 - 17th August 2021
With great sadness Robin’s family announce his gentle passing.
The skillful and compassionate services of the palliative home care team enabled Robin to die at home. Gentle breezes came off the lake and the sun filtered in. He was surrounded by the comfort and familiarity of home, with all his family around him to say goodbye.
Robin was born in Napier New Zealand. The youngest son of Joseph and Margaret Newton. He apprenticed as an electrician. After he’d wired more sheep sheds than he could count, he went to the outback of Australia, where for three years he was an electrician working underground in the Mount Isa copper mines. There he discovered computers which were housed in air conditioned comfort. His lifelong interest in computing was piqued.
He travelled to London England and began studying and working on rudimentary computers in the newly developing industry. Whilst there he met and married Pamela and a year later in 1969 they emigrated to Toronto.
Robin and Pam came to Perth in 1973 when Robin bought and operated McGowan Lake Campground in Maberly for 8 years. After that he worked alongside his wife at Perth Downtown Pharmasave. Later he followed his twin passions of photography and computers and founded Images InterAlia.
Robin leaves his brother Tony in Auckland New Zealand. It was good fortune that they were together for one last visit in New Zealand, January 2020.
He was the devoted and caring husband of Pam with whom he shared 53 adventurous eventful years.
Robin was the loving father of Neil (partner Aspen and daughter Lily) and Raymond his younger son. He was a mentor and father figure to Georgi, Iulia and Nikol. A special friend and support to Win Halladay and her daughter Michele Visser.
Robin was devoted to his family. He was deeply involved in all aspects of their lives and supported their activities and aspirations. He was a great source of knowledge and of advice, which he himself occasionally followed.
His family and friends will remember his kindness, and his fair mindedness.
He was fascinated by the natural world and loved new technology. We will all remember his unique sense of humour and his very many boating misadventures.
Visitation will be held in the Blair & Son Funeral Home, Wednesday, August 25th , 2021 from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. A private family service will be held at 7:30 P.M.for an online link to the service please message findneilnewton@gmail.com
