Obituary of Jacqueline Margaret Atkin

ATKIN, Jacqueline DuBois Suddenly at the age of 85, on August 11, 2019 at her home in Smiths Falls, Ontario. Beloved wife of the late Michael Atkin. Dear mother of Susan (John) McGinn of Texas, Jennifer (Randy) Vinkler of North Carolina, and Michael Atkin of Trenton, Ontario. Loving grandmother of Colin, Sarah, Brett, Rachel, Meagan and Aly. Dear sister of Diane Gagnon of Edmonton, Alberta and the late John DuBois, and much-loved sister-in-law of Diane DuBois of Wales and Monica and Eric Hill of Yorkshire, UK. Aunt to many nieces and nephews, and lifetime best friend of Claire Miller and beloved honorary aunt to Claire’s children. Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, the eldest daughter of John Paul and Simone (Ledoux) DuBois, Jackie grew up in Montreal where she graduated from St. Paul’s Academy and Notre Dame Secretarial College (the Mother House). During her long and happy marriage to her husband Michael, she resided in Rosemere, Quebec, Derby Line, Vermont, and lastly in Smiths Falls, where she lived for 37 years and made many dear friends. Jackie was the cornerstone of her family and very involved in the communities where she lived, working and volunteering in many capacities throughout her life – she was the kind of person who never met a stranger and loved to chat. An avid reader and lifetime library patron, she served on the Smiths Falls Public Library Board and was a faithful borrower there every week. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs, and gave a wonderful home to many over the years – her house was never without furry friends. Her children will greatly miss her joie de vivre, her interest in everything, and her love. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, Smiths Falls. There will be a private family interment at a later date. In memoriam donations to the Under My Wing Pug Rescue of Ottawa, Ontario or to L.A.W.S. (Lanark Animal Welfare Society) would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Blair & Son Funeral Directors, Smiths Falls, ON 613-283-2800. www.blairandson.com
