Obituary of Margaret Lucy Young
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of dear wife, mother, grandmother and friend Marg (Maggie) on August 13th, 2022, who was born in Montreal to Wilbur (Bud) and Marion Stoddart. She was the loving wife of James Clayton Young, mother to Karen (Jeff) Anderson, John (Kim) Young, Mary (David) Taylor, and Melanie (Tom) Snyder. Caring grandmother to Kyle, Dan, Matthew, Jacob, Clayton, James, and Lauren. Margaret is sister to Philip and lifelong friend to Michelle. She is predeceased by parents Wilbur (Bud), Marion, and brother Jim. After graduating from St. Michael’s College as a registered nurse in 1958, Maggie went on to practice at Toronto East General Hospital. She continued to work in medicine with the Ottawa Civic Hospital and later with Upjohn Health Services and Visiting Homemakers Association. Between all this, Maggie always found time to help others through her volunteer work and leadership, supporting organizations such as the Distress Centre of Ottawa, the Ontario Alzheimer Association, and the Red Cross Eastern Ontario.
Working as a waitress at the Grandview Lodge, in the Muskokas, Maggie met and fell in love with the piano player of the house band, Clayton. The stars aligned and they married starting a venture that would span a life of 63 years of bliss, working on their gardens, antique hunting, music and family. Maggie always had an infectious laugh, quick wit and a full heart, willing to give of herself tirelessly to anyone in need. She will be sadly missed by countless family and friends.
The family would like to thank Lanark Lodge and the nursing team that took care of Margaret these past five years.
Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of Maggie’s life at the Blair & Son Family Reception Centre 15 Gore St. W. Perth, on Friday, August 19th, 2022 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. In honour of Maggie, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Society of Lanark, Leeds & Grenville would be appreciated.
