This is longer and just for the family
I was sad to hear that Aunt Doris left us on Aug 16, but it brings to mind memories that are comforting. Thank you to Aunt Doris & Uncle Merv for sharing community
I remember: her making practical comments on life with her dry sense of humour
-childhood memories of rambling in the barns or being invited into the house to talk & laugh together, sometimes with Granny & Grandpa
-a good time at Granny's & Grandpa's wedding anniversary (50th?)
-hearing Merv, Richard, Gord, Peter jam together
-Aunt D's rabbits. We took one as a pet
-Aunt D's chickens that took a long, long time to fatten up. We bought & ate some.
-Aunt D & U Merv were always very busy with house & barn chores, yet seemed to welcome our visits.
- U Merv saddling up their horse for me to ride. Leaving the barn I couldn't get the horse to move at more than an amble, however, when we turned to face the barn again, I got a real fast trip back!
More recent memories:
-Aunt D always kept our Christmas picture of Julia or our family on the fridge.
-Mom & I visited them at Robinson St & the budgie rested on Mom's head.
-I appreciate meeting Ken as he walks with his buddies in the neighbourhood, and getting updates on how the family is doing.
-chatting with Peter & Heather at musical events
-walking with Uncle Merv and the dog at Last Duel Park
I appreciate the way Uncle Merv cared for Doris for the past 4 years and the way he will continue to care for himself, his home & his family despite the loss. 64 years married is a wonderfully long time.
I appreciate the way each one of you lives life and cares for each other -Richard giving a kidney, Peter and Heather hosting family celebrations, Chloe & Sarah dealing with health issues to name just a few. Thanks for being such special family with resilience & compassion.
Lots of love,
Deb
