Obituary of Simon Paul Charles Benwell

Simon Benwell of Lanark Highlands suddenly passed away on September 5, 2023, at the age of 59. Simon was the loving son of the late Trevor and Paula Benwell of England. Simon leaves behind his loving partner of 22 years, Louise Richardson. He will be fondly remembered for how much support he provided Louise’s family Aidan Umpherson, Hannah Umpherson (Kevin Ryan) and Henry Owen Umpherson. Sadly, missed by his in-laws Nelly Richardson (the late Ken Winkenweder), Valerie Hall (Mark Davies), Steven Richardson (Shannon Richardson), Ann Moore (Gary Marion), Linda Fair (the late Allen Fair). Also, he will be missed by his close friends Mary Allin, Chris Hart (Della Hart), James Wylde (Nicole Wylde), Stephen Davies (Kristy Davies), Devon Fair and his faithful dog Yogi.

Simon was raised in Britain and was a proud veteran of the British Military where he served in active missions. Simon was an Army Air Corps Signaller and received Northern Ireland and UN Cyprus service medals. Following his military service, Simon worked in Britain and Canada in various positions in High Technical companies. He will be remembered for his brilliant mind and exceptional problem-solving skills. He was a passionate volunteer for the Ontario Competitive Trail Riding Association and enjoyed supporting his many friends and family in equine endurance racing. He had a deep love for his dogs and horses.  Simon also enjoyed kayaking and sailing and competed in sailing competitions in his younger years. He also developed his search and rescue skills, which he deployed at equine events.
