Obituary of Ryan Smolkin

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Ryan Smolkin, on October 29, 2023, founder of Smoke’s Poutinerie and mentor to many. Ryan is the son of Howard Smolkin and the late Patricia Smolkin (nee Ridewood). Much loved and respected brother of Derek (Helen Braiter) and Nikki (Michael Shapiro). He will be greatly missed by his two sons Nate and Sam …the lights of his life…, their mother and caring co-parent, Tanya Smolkin (nee Bojarski), his Aunt Deb and Uncle Roger Dougherty, nephews Ben, Joey, and Isaac, his nieces Neilah and Mimi, special cousins Christopher (Holly) and Aleah (Jeremy), and Howard’s partner Annice Kronick. Ryan also leaves behind his close friends and his loyal and trusted Wilfrid Laurier University buddies with whom he had an unbreakable bond.

A Funeral service will be held on November 2, 2023 at 1:30 pm at Ottawa Torah Centre, 111 Lamplighter Drive, Ottawa. Interment to follow at Jewish Memorial Gardens 6549 Herberts Corners Rd, Greely, Ontario. For those unable to attend in person please view live stream here.  

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to We Care or a charity of your choice. 

Shiva will be observed at the home of Nikki and Michael Shapiro 14 Parkglen Drive, Ottawa. Shiva will begin Thursday evening and continue to the morning of Wednesday November 8. Services will be at 5:30 p.m. each evening.
