Obituary of Jean Helen Fitzgerald

April 23, 1926 - February 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jean Helen (Hamilton) Fitzgerald (nee Courneya) in her 97th year at Providence Manor, Kingston.  Loving daughter of E.J. and Esther Courneya. Loving mother of Dr. Jeanette (Larry Fairservice) Hamilton, Susan (Greg) Guichon, Mark (Janet) Hamilton, Nancy (Therese) Hamilton, Gord (Gail) Hamilton, Lisa (Brad Cameron) Hamilton and Carolyn (Graham) Badun.  Fondly remembered by her 15 grandchildren, Sean, Lauren, Jenna, Michael, Ryan, Rachael, David, Melissa, Mitchell, Amanda, Bradley, Jack, Tess, Elise and Lewis as well as her 5 great-grandchildren, Lila, Rory, Eli, William, Georgia Rose and many nieces and nephews.  Jean was a graduate of the St. Joseph's School of Nursing (Hotel Dieu) in 1947.  She was predeceased by her husbands Dr. Harry Hamilton and Roy Fitzgerald and by 2 sisters, Esther and Evelyn and 10 brothers, Orval, Don, Ted, Dominic, Vernon, Wilford, Toby, Gerry, George and Frank Courneya.  Family and friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 112 Beckwith St. N., Smiths Falls on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Church, 17 Elmsley St. N., Smiths Falls on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.  with a reception to follow the mass.  Interment following the reception will take place at Blessed Sacrament Cemetery, Lombardy.  In memory of Jean, donations to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (Providence Manor) or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
