Obituary of Dennis Buckley

Passed peacefully on March 23, 2024 at the Smiths Falls Hospital with family by his side. Dennis was predeceased by his parents Gilbert & Winnie Buckley (nee Fogg), as well as by his brothers Robin and Kenneth Buckley. He leaves behind his loving wife Susan Buckley, brother-in-law Rob (Hilary), nephew Matthew (Amanda) and niece Sarah. Dennis was an avid soccer player in his youth, and was passionate about playing the drums throughout his life. Dennis served in the Canadian military before joining Bell Canada for a 30+ year career. Dennis leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion; after retiring from Bell Canada he, together with the late Bernie Boyle, opened Newgate 180 in Merrickville, a rehabilitation facility aimed at helping those struggling with addiction and mental health issues. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff, and especially Dr. Megan Argue, at the Smiths Falls site of the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital for their kindness and compassion. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday April 3, 2024 at the Blair & Son Funeral Home (112 Beckwith St, N) from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception. Interment will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Lanark, Leeds & Grenville.
