Obituary of Christine M. (nee MacKay) St Jean
With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Christine Marie St Jean (Mackay), a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, aunt, and dedicated community volunteer. Christine, aged 76, peacefully departed on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Brockville General Hospital, leaving behind a void that echoes in the hearts of all who knew her.
Born on February 6, 1948, in Belleville, Ontario, to the late James and Eva Mackay, Christine's sudden departure has deeply impacted her loved ones.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 55 years, Bill; her sons Scott and Bradley, along with their caring spouses Stephanie and Denise; her beloved grandson Nicholas (Nick) and cherished granddaughters Laura, Cecile (Ceci), and Josette (JoJo). She also leaves behind numerous close friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Christine led a life enriched with experiences, spending 30 years as a military spouse, traversing 11 different locations across Canada. Initially trained and employed as a hairstylist, she later dedicated a decade of her life to Sears. Upon settling in the Smiths Falls – Rideau Lakes area, she spent 10 years as a committed volunteer and Living Well facilitator at Country Roads Community Health Centre in Portland.
Throughout her life she was guided by her deep religious faith and was a highly dedicated and active member of the Catholic Women’s League throughout Canada and especially the past 26 years with the St Francis de Sales – Blessed Sacrament Council.
Her warmth, kindness, and grace were the hallmarks of Christine's character and touched the lives of her wide circle of family, friends, neighbours and parishioners, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met.
A Funeral Mass honoring Christine will be held at St. Francis de Sales Church (17 Elmsley St N, Smiths Falls, ON K7A 2G6) on Friday, April 19th, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society of Canada would be appreciated. Following the Funeral Mass, a reception honouring and celebrating Christine’s life will take place in Hanley Hall, located behind the church.
