I was saddened to hear earlier today from another Smiths Falls buddy about Peter's passing. Although it has been years and years since I last spoke with Peter, I remember the many great times that we shared while working together with the Ottawa Police and living together with another Offficer in the west end of Ottawa (Britannia).
I remember Peter to be a great guy who would always offer to help in any way possible. I remember a dry sense of humour that always let you see a different side of him. We shared another passion during our time with each of us owning a Corvette.
My sincere condolences to all his family. He woll definitely be missed. Rest in peace my friend

Diane and Family: I am so saddened to hear of Pete’s passing. Our paths have not crossed often in recent years but I have many fond memories from the younger years. He and Owen had many good laughs and got into lots of mischief. Hoping Ownie and Petey-Poo (pet names for each other) meet up once again now. Hold onto your memories to sustain you now and in the future.

Sad to hear this news. Pete and I hung out together when life centered around motorcycles, age seventeen or so. That BSA 650 Lightning he owned was a beauty. Pete was a good lad.

I am saddened to learn of Peter’s passing. He was a great guy. Our paths crossed over the years during his policing career and many times in the courts while he worked for the private sector. Rest in Peace my friend.

My sincerest condolences to all of the Watkins family. I worked from 1979 to 1988 with Pete at the Perth Police Service. Peter was a great officer but sure loved to pull jokes - him and soupy were a bad pair. He loved his job and helping people. I remember sending him on an incident where the lady answered her door completely nude - he was still redder than his reddish hair upon returning to the office. We had some good laughs. May he rest in peace surrounded by God's love. He was one of the good ones.

My brother Pete has been the steady rock during stormy weather for myself, my parents and numerous family members.
I personally have been very proud of him for many reasons. Number one choosing Diane for his life partner, sharing and raising four wonderful kids to be responsible and loving adults. They in turn have shared all of that with their children.
Pete was very helpful to all who knew him.
He had a great sense of humour, he had to being a Toronto Maple Leaf for decades and still held the faith. That was humorous in its self. Enjoyed a good ribbing about it.
Pete was very supportive of Junior Hockey hosting players in their home and being like a second Dad to them all.
Pete's workshop was a pride and joy for him to create wonderful wooden pieces for family. I remember him showing me some things he working on or fixing/refinishing, he loved caressing a piece of wood he worked. I think he had unnatural love of wood come to think of it.
Pete had fun dabbling in antiques and sharing that love with his family and all the people he had the pleasure of meeting.
Gardening was something else he loved as Pete and Diane would planting an enormous garden so they could provide family and friends the large bounty it would provide each year.
Volunteering at the Food Bank was something he really enjoyed for as long as he could.
A funny story I needed to share was about him buying a rubber dingy. Pete was under the impression his large body would be able to float in. My Mom and I stood on the shore and watch intently blow it up, plunk it in the water. He managed to get himself in it, within 5 seconds, it folded in two making Pete a funny looking Man Sandwich. We could not stop laughing while he tried to get out of the sandwich. He just ignored us as he stuffed it in his green Corvette to take it back. Still makes me laugh today.
Our parents instilled the love of animals/dogs in all of us and Pete carried on with that all his life. It was of no surprise that he wanted to see that love carried on by family and friends.
His beliefs will look after him now.
As siblings we had our ups and downs but I did love that big lug
