I am so very sorry that a previous engagement prevented me from attending today. I wanted to tell Katharina's family and friends about how she would collect books for my daughter's Grade 1 and 2 class to present to the birthday boys and girls throughout the year. Of course with Katharina's teaching experience in Sudbury, she knew how much pleasure it would bring for them to have a book to take home (and keep!), on their birthdays.
Katharina would scour the area for yard sales, garage sales and sales at the library, only picking books in pristine condition of course. And she knew which ones to pick too. I tried to send Katharina photos of them receiving their books, so that she could see the joy she brought for them. Even in the later stages of her illness Katharina was still doing this and my daughter and I would go to collect them, expecting many many less than what she had collected for us. It truly was such a generous and kind thing to do. I also remember those Christmas mugs filled with greenery and Christmas decorations, that she organized for the students in a couple of schools every December. The pride and pleasure the students took in these as they carried them home for mom just before Christmas. So many other occasions too that she organized with the CFUW Out and About group. Katharina was always thinking of others. I was so lucky to have met her when I moved to Perth. We miss you Katharina.

I remember Katharina from the Tuesday night TOPS group that I attended. Her humour was wonderful and the stories Katharina told were very engaging. I found her to be quite an inspiration. We of the TOPS group certainly enjoyed Katharina's presence
and also the wonderful hospitality we experienced during Christmas get-togethers
at her home. I feel fortunate to have known this remarkable Lady.

Dear Mark, Kristi and families,
It is with great sadness that I came across your Mum’s obituary today. We really got to know one another from swimming at the town pool. She was a great inspiration to a lot of us to remain active. although she was not able to join us recently, she occasionally came to visit.
We also shared our daughters both living in NZ along with stories of our travels there as well as our grandchildren attending the same primary school. Hopefully the memories of others help you all deal with your great loss.

Dear Mr. Mark Allen and members of the family.
I was very sad to read the passing of your Mother on August 31st. Having lost my Mother twenty one years ago, I fully understand your accute pain at your loss. Parents are very precious for they gave us life, they nurtured us to adulthood, and gave us a set of values that are dear to us and that help us to go through life. With the passing of time, the severe pain would blurr somewhat, but we never forget.
I am a member of the Swiss community, and had met your Mother, as well as your Grand Father, when your family very kindly hosted the community for the National Day on your farm.: I remenber their hospitality, warmth, and friendliness. I remember also that your Grand Father wanted to be in Switzerland for the 700 years of the Swiss Confederation in 1991: He went, attended the celebrations, came back to Canada...and passed away a few days later, In the last few years, I had met your Mother again at events of the Swiss Club and the Swiss Seniors Club.
I believe that our dear departed are in the presence of God, and in the hope of the Resurrection at the end of times. As Job's said, we too with Faith, Hope and sereine acceptance, God's will for :
The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away ; blessed be the name of the Lord.
Job 1: 21
I present to you and to the members of your family, my profound and sincere condolences,
Michel - Charles Tadros

To the grieving family of Kathy: I hope I am not being offensive, when I tell you this story, at this sad time. But some two years ago, when we were all locked down during the Covid pandemic, the rumour was circulating that Kathy had died of cancer. Nothing official could be found to confirm this, but that did not seem unusual during the hard times of isolation we went through then. Everybody I called confirmed the same rumour. I was very saddened to hear it and just wanted to do SOMETHING. And so, I sat down and wrote a condolence letter to you and addressed it to her home in Perth, as I had no other way of delivering it. Imagine my surprise about a year later, as I walked through a shopping center, when a masked Kathy suddenly appeared walking towards me. I was more than embarrassed. I was mortified. A lesser human being would have given me a dirty look and turned away, but not Kathy. She opened wide her arms and gave me a big hug, saying, “Thank you for your letter. It was so nice to know what people will say about me when I am really gone!” So now that she is “really gone,” I’ll add it below with our heartfelt condolences:
November 16, 2022: To the family of dear Katharina Allen-Bollinger: It is with great sadness that I have learnt that Kathy has succumbed to the cancer she has fought so bravely for quite a long time. A thousand happy and wonderful memories came to me of her generosity over so many years. When we needed something at the OVSC, she was always there advising us, helping, and doing whatever needed to be done without any great fanfare. She just knew it instinctively and acted on it. Among the many other things she was, knew, and did, she was an innovative old master when it came to arts and crafts. I learnt to make the fanciest Christmas decorations, large front-door arrangements, and all manner of artistic structures with materials she had gathered in huge boxes, neatly organized. She also taught these art and craft forms to our children for decades, and yet, every year there was something new, something even better. She taught us how to walk through the woods and see the myriad of things that could be taken with us and turned into an expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, be this as part of a painting or sculpture to be appreciated for their beauty and emotional power, or simply “Bastelarbet.” All that she taught us will stay with us. I’ll miss her and will always keep a grateful remembrance of her when she walked, talked, consoled and advised among us. May she rest in peace. .Kati and Peter

The members of the Ottawa Valley Swiss Club are very sad to hear of Katharina Allen's passing. She and the Bollinger family have been part of the life blood of our community for many decades. She and her famikly enabled us to do so many things better than we could have done without them, including lending us their large homes for special celebrations. Katharina has been like a mother to us all, helping, consoling, contributing to all our functions with new and innovating ideas. We appreciated her intelligent way of approaching life, her constancy, her being part of the salt of the earth. She will leave a great hole in our midst. We would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to her family from all of us at the OVSC INC. May she rest in heavenly peace. A rest well deserved after such a busy, happy, and productive life.
