Obituary of Marilyn Eva Nicholson

Marilyn passed away peacefully with family by her side, at Hilltop Manor Nursing Home, on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Andy Nicholson for over 39 years. Loved mother of Jeff (Lill) Winkenweder, Robert (Judy) Winkenweder, Heather Winkenweder (Todd), and David (Mary) Winkenweder. Stepmother of Donna (Ron) Healey, Wayne (Louise) Nicholson, and Edward (Patsy) Nicholson. Sadly missed by grandchildren Josh (Sara), Katie (Jordan), Ryan (Paige), Kurtis (Brooke), Brooke (Taylor) Fasika, Hilina, Meghan (Mitch), Wil, Hannah (Keifer), Shawn, Curtis, Jacob, Zoe, and Rhys. Great-grandchildren Oryanna, Jaxson, Brynley, Ben, Zach, Levi, Nash, Clark, Leo, Rowan, Reid and Brooksy. Deeply missed by her only sister Jane (Pat) Meraw. Predeceased by her parents Peter and Lillian Roberts.

Marilyn was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and eventually her family ended up in Smiths Falls. After high school, she became a nurse, training at the Civic Hospital in Ottawa. She worked for various doctors during her nursing career, all while raising her four children with her former husband Ken. Needing a change, she opened Marilyn’s paint and paper store on Beckwith Street, Smiths Falls. Eventually she got into doing physical exams for insurance companies, which took her to Kingston where she met Andy. Remarried in 1985, until Andy’s passing in 2013, she had a great career working in Kingston for a crew of doctors where she gained a wonderful group of friends. Along with marrying Andy came his children, Donna, Wayne, and Edward and their families, who she also came to love as her family. Marilyn and Andy enjoyed a good life in Kingston, watching grandkids play hockey. She also enjoyed curling, dancing, doing puzzles, golf and luncheon trips with the roadsters. Marilyn had a group of women she golfed with when she could. They also loved to travel in their camper; making many trips to visit family. Every few years they would have everyone together for a big dinner at a local restaurant giving the time to catch up on kids and grandkids. Many memories were made. After Andy’s passing Marilyn moved back to Smiths Falls. She lived at the Gallipeau Centre, then Colonel By apartments, followed by Willowdale Retirement Centre and then to Van Horne Manor where she had made many friends until her passing at Hilltop Manor.

As per Marilyn’s wishes, there will be no wake or funeral. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of her wonderful Life will take place at Blair and Son Funeral Home Smiths Falls, 112 Beckwith Street North, Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date.
