Obituary of William Douglas Daines
William Douglas Daines
December 17, 1958 – October 22, 2024
After 44 years of designing, building and repairing homes. Bill has put
down his pencil, hung up his level and turned off his saw.
On October 22, 2024 while working, Bill’s big heart could not keep up
with his body. With his sense of humor still intact, he joked with the
paramedics, walked over and boarded the ambulance for his final ride.
Bill was well known in our community for the hundreds of homes he
designed, for his professionalism, perfection in his carpentry work and
his outstanding creativity.
Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life. His years
hunting at Juniper Junction with his gang were close to his heart. Bill
spent many happy hours teaching his nephews to hunt and fish.
Bill loved rock and roll and blues music, together with his partner Carol,
attending multiple concerts.
Bill was a talented soccer player as a young man, a devoted die hard
Toronto Maple Leaf fan, Blue Jays and Raptors fan, but his love of the
CFL dominated in recent years. A devoted Argo fan, but since the Red
Blacks came to Ottawa, a dedicated RNation fan, well known in the CFL
family for his unique signs, hand designed team outfits and ridiculous
team hats! Bill’s passing was honoured at the last home game for his
years of devotion and contribution to the Red Blacks and CFL. His
notably empty seat was draped, by the team with a Red Blacks blanket.
A Canada and CFL flag were hung in front of his spot and his dear
friend, Big Joe made him his honorary “Fan Of The Game”.
Bill loved the outdoors, supported Ducks Unlimited and many
Children’s charities. For 44 years he was a volunteer for the Blair Poole
Road Association, always working hard to ensure the safety of the road
for his neighbours. Bill had an ingrained sense of responsibility since a
child and would do anything to help friends and neighbours.
Bill loved his family, loved to barbeque, loved to tease his nieces and
nephews and loved to share his stories with them. Fun times, at the
cottage were a priority where he loved to entertain his family and
friends … whether it was playing Risk, outdoor games, camp fires or
boat tours… You could count on him to be the life of the party…his
favorite beverage not far away!!!
The cottage at Otty Lake was home to Bill, originally built by his Dad in
the 1950s and over the past 44 years updated and renovated by Bill to
enhance and maintain the unique features of his father’s work.
Bill was well known for his gigantic dock complete with underwater
seat, hammock, diving board and swim up bar. It was a work of art!
Bill made many friends in business and leisure. If he was your friend
you knew it, he would go the extra mile for you. A favorite quote of
Bill’s was. “It is chance that makes brothers, but hearts that make
friends”
Taken from us suddenly and far too soon, he leaves to mourn his loss,
his devoted life partner, Carol Davidson; his step-sons, Devon, Dustin
and Nigel (Cassy) Cutmore; his sister-in-law, Donna Davidson (Cliff) and
predeceased by sister-in-law, Sharon Davidson and brother-in-law Fred.
Bill was also predeceased by his parents Eleanor and Art Daines and

Greenough (Lloyd) and sister-in-law Nancy Kilrea.
