Obituary of Douglas Brian Evans

Douglas Brian Evans, 83, of Perth, Ontario passed away on October 28, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.

Doug was born on June 23, 1941, to Dave and Irene Evans in Toronto, Ontario.  Doug graduated from University of Waterloo with his Bachelor of Science and Master of Math.  He led a distinguished career in education, beginning as a teacher in Waterloo, then as a lecturer at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, and continued, for nearly 30 years until retirement, as Head of Math at Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute.  Not only was he an incredible role model for his own children and grandchildren, but for all the students who passed through his classes.

Doug enjoyed many activities outside of work including overseeing a “hobby” farm, helping train and ride horses, playing and coaching curling, singing in a community men’s choir and at church, downhill skiing with his children, boating and active membership in the local Power Squadron and a substantial involvement in Portland United Church.

Doug is survived by his wife Lynne (nee Peden), his children Clark (Gretchen) and Hope, and his four grandchildren, Maggie and Quinn Evans, and Tristan and Kaden Chambers.  He also leaves behind a loving extended family of his brothers Keith (Lorna), and Paul (Marie) and in-laws Brian Peden, Anita and Jacob Wong, and Keith and Nicola Peden.  Many nieces, nephews and their children will miss Uncle Doug.  The family will mourn his loving presence but are assured that he is now at peace in the arms of our creator. The Evans family cannot sufficiently thank the staff of Lanark Lodge, especially the Maples, for the loving care of Doug and his family for over four years. Lanark Lodge is an especially great care home.

Doug's funeral will take place at 11am on Saturday November 9th, 2024 at Portland United Church with a reception following the service.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Parkinson Canada.
