Obituary of Lucille Fay

Fay, Lucille (Lucy) Alarie

Lucille (Lucy) Alarie Fay, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, died peacefully October 24, 2024 in Perth Ontario at the age of 97.  She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Maurice, in 2016 and all six of her siblings.  She will be missed by her children Mike, Louise and David, daughters-in-law Gail and Anneke and grandchildren Ryan, Blair, Jennifer and Emily, and great grandsons Scott and Leo, and by her many nieces and nephews.

Lucy grew up on a family farm near Matheson Ontario, and told stories of attending a one room school.  She moved to Timmins for high school and later trained there as a nurse.  Her husband’s job took them to the Sudbury area where they raised their family.  She was instrumental in starting a community library in Garson.  Her love of books was a large part of her life and when she moved to Cornwall in 1971 she got involved with the Friends of the Cornwall Library, volunteering many hours until she moved to assisted living.  She was a voracious reader to the end.

In Cornwall, Lucy took up pottery and basketweaving and was a regular exhibitor at area craft sales.  She taught basketweaving to children and was delighted when they remembered her years later.  At the Seaway Senior Citizens Club, Lucy was well known as a Scrabble fiend, spending time with her many friends.  She missed them all when she left Cornwall and moved to Perth to be nearer her children.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Lanark Lifestyles in Perth for their kind care.

As per her wishes, there will be no funeral.  Rather, she suggested everyone raise a glass to life, and make a donation to Friends of the Cornwall Library or Seaway Senior Citizens Club, or to your favorite charity.  Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors, Perth.
