Obituary of John Norman Arnold Fleming

John Norman Arnold Fleming

October 4, 1956 – January 4, 2025

John passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on Saturday, January 4, 2025.  With him was his loving wife Paula, his sister Nancy and his four best buddies – Jim Meagher, Bill McShane, Mike Gibson and Gord Rivoire. He left us listening to their golf stories.

John was predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Vivian Fleming and sister-in-law Lisa Fleming.  He is survived by his siblings Nancy (Jim Paul), Kathy (Jim Abbass) Janet (Cy Wells),  and David (Marie Fleming).  Also survived by Paula Davio’s sisters Isobel (Guy Charpentier), Kerry (Bob Kearney) and Paula’s family Jodi (John Watson), Kayla (Devon Miller), Darian (Ethan), Johnston, Zander (Sophia). He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews.  He spent a lot of time with them as they were growing up.  Some quotes were: always played with us, took us skiing,  and how to make vegetables better to eat.  He never left you out and was always up for a good prank.  Best Uncle ever!!!

John was very active playing sports through the years, but his passion was golf.  He was a quiet, private guy, but didn’t hesitate to let you know his opinion if he thought it was warranted.  John was lucky Paula enjoyed golf as well, and when it was just the two of them travelling, golf was involved.   John and Paula did a lot of travelling, and especially enjoyed trips with their friends.

The “Mary Street gang” evolved into lifelong friends.  They were always there for each other and egged each other on.   The Smiths Falls Golf Course was his summer home.  He had his regular weekly groups but also enjoyed golf trips with his expanding number of golfing buddies.  One of his highlights was going to the Masters.  A very proud time for him.

He will be missed by so many.  We know he will be watching over the golf course, checking up on his buddies and looking for the best courses in heaven.  Hope you meet some of the greats and show them your stuff!

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 112 Beckwith St. N., Smiths Falls on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 11:00  to 1:00 p.m.  followed by an informal service to commemorate John’s life with interment following at Hillcrest Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 11th at the Smiths Falls Golf & Country Club from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.  In memory of John, donations to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (KGH Kidd 9 Cancer Centre) or the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
