September 15, 1942 – January 17, 2025

Fortified by the Last Sacraments of the Church, and with family members at his bedside, Father Daniel John Ryan departed this life at Kingston General Hospital on Friday, January 17 at the age of 82. He was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario on September 15, 1942, and grew up in Perth, Ontario. He is predeceased by his parents, Joe and Gwen (Sinnott) Ryan and by his sister, Anne Marie (Ron) Brady.
He will be sadly missed by his brother Paul, his brother Frank (Gloria) and their sons Michael and Matthew, and his brother-in-law Ron Brady (Anne Marie) and their children, Todd, Scott and Stephanie, and his many cousins. He was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Perth on May 15, 1971. During his active priestly ministry, Father Dan served in the parishes of St. John the Apostle, Kingston; St. John the Evangelist, Gananoque; St. Peter-in-Chains, Trenton; Holy Redeemer Cathedral, Corner Brook, Nfld; St. John the Evangelist, Flinton and St. Kilian, Ardoch; St. Ann, Merrickville; and St. Laurence O’Toole, Spencerville. He has lived and served at St. Mary’s Cathedral since 1987. He will lie in state in St. Mary’s Cathedral on Wednesday, January 22, with visitation from 5 to 8 pm. The reception of his body will take place at 5 pm, and the Vigil Prayer Service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue the following day, Thursday, January 23, from 9:30 am to 10:15 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Cathedral, with the Most Reverend Michael Mulhall, Archbishop of Kingston, presiding. All are invited to attend his interment at St. John’s Cemetery, Perth, Ontario on Thursday, January 23 at 2:00 pm. The family of Father Ryan would be most grateful for donations in his memory to St. Mary's Cathedral, with St. Rita's Drop-in Centre in the memo line, or to St. John the Baptist Church, Perth, Ontario, or to the Priests’ Retirement Fund of the Archdiocese of Kingston. May God grant him eternal rest.
