My heartfelt sympathy to you and other membrs of the family on the great loss in the death of Hap. I have long and happy memories of Hap and your mother since 1946 when I first met him in Gander. Having worked with him in various roles since that time we became very good friends. We always enjoyed one anothers company with many trick and jokes exchanged over the years. I always felt like one of the family. I shall miss him very much but I hope you can find solace in the fact that he has gone to join Miss Ellie and the fact that he has led a long and happy life. May he rest in peace.

I have many fond memories from the time we both lived on Sullivan Ave., Gander. I remember Hap buying that famous or infamous Edsel. He was an excellent instructor, enhanced by his colorful yarns and jokes. He also excelled at photography as well as a dozen other things. His best buddy was probably Jack James and he loved flying with Jack's 'Box of Tricks'. I've often told the story of his control abilities highlighted with one time when I was training and he was the supervisor. A qualified controller, was reading a book while controlling & the traffic was piling up. Hap was patrolling the sectors keeping an eye on the traffic. He warned the controller that he'd better pay more attention to the traffic. His warning was ignored and withing a few minutes the controller was stuck. Hap had to take over control from him and sort out the potential mess. I've never forgotten that incident. (That particular controller, although younger than Hap, passed away several years ago.)
My sincere condolences.
Frank Tibbo (retired controller and former resident of 162 Sullivan)

Condolence Carol,Jeff,Jan and families.
I worked for many years on Hap's ATC Gander shift and have many happy
memories of him as an excellent supervisor, controller and instructor.
He was also a great raconteur with a good sense of humor and a joke
for many occasions. Our mutual interest in Amateur Radio enabled us
to keep in contact when he settled in the Ottawa area and to extend
that communication via computer e-mail contact in recent years.
With sincere condolences to the family,
Don Blackmore (retired) Gander. NL

My heartfelt sympathy on the passing of your dear father. When I was flying with TCA (Air Canada) in the 1960's and did the milk run through Gander was so proud when the Captain would ask....are you related to Hap in the tower and I would say ..Yes...that's my 1st cousin. Although many years have passed since seeing your Dad..I will miss him.
Thoughts & prayers are with you all!

Carol, Jan & Geoff,
Our deepest sympathy in the loss of your Dad. It was just a few days ago that I was thinking about him! I have such wonderful memories of times spent together with you all in Gander. It has been a few years since I saw him and your Mom in Perth and I am so glad that I had that opportunity. I know you will miss him dearly. I always think about how much both your parents loved a good laugh. We passed through Indiatlantic recently and Pat and I spoke of their time spent here in Florida. May your memories help heal the loss!
Love Lynn & Pat

Carol, Jan & Jeff. Our deepest sympathy on your Dads death. It was always so much fun to be with him & your Mom. They were always great friends of our families. We always called or visited when in Ottawa. I loved baby sitting you children as your parents had so much good music & I was permitted to play their records (in Bldg 149 Gander) You will miss him so much, but I know you will have so many wonderful memories.

I am pleased to have met Hap 50 years ago when I joined the Gander
Air Traffic Control Radar Maintenance crew as a new, young technnician. He was helpful in my settling in to the new job.
After he moved to Ottawa I had to be in that city on business for NARTIG (Nfld. Association of Radar Technicians in Gander.) Hap graciously invited Bob Parsons & I to his home for a dinner evening with him, Eleanor & family. I've never forgotten the warmth of their friendship and hospitality. Reading Hap's obituary in today's Telegram prompted me to gratefully recall the pleasant memories of my association with him. He was a great guy. My condolences to the family. May he rest in peace.
