Mard and all extended family-we have only good memories of Jack.He had an aura of kindness and friendliness about him that set everyone completely at ease when in his presence or on the phone. We extend our sympathy to all family members who will miss him greatly.Louise and I enjoyed our infrequent visits with him in Toronto over a BBQ dinner during his stopovers while on the Toronto/Smiths Falls run many years ago.Jack had a heart of gold and was able to share that with many cancer patients during his driving years and for which he was recognized by the Order of Canada from the Governor General. When we think of him,we remember his kind, affable manner as well as the fact that he never spoke ill of anyone to us.A rare attribute these days!Go in peace,Jack. We commend your soul to God. Bernie and Louise.

Aunt Mardie and family. Please accept our condolences. Uncle Jack will be missed by many. His wit and sense of humour were unmatched. We have never met anyone who enjoyed telling a joke or hearing one more than him. His dedication to family, friends and the community as a whole are a testament to the type of individual Uncle Jack was. He has set the bar high for those that follow in his footsteps.

I knew Jack as a volunteer driver for the Cancer Society. I encountered Jack many times over the years in both the Ottawa and Kingston Regional Cancer Centres. He was a patient and caring man who I know made an positive impact on the people who came to know him as driver Jack. Jack made a difference for people in their time of need. He cared. I wish to express my sincere condolences on your loss.

Mardie and family
When you saw the twinkle in Jack's eyes watch out, you just knew an Archie Bunker statement was going to come out of his mouth. Jack would and could talk to anyone, tell a joke or just enjoy being around you. Jack's generous donation of his time with the Masonic Transportation Unit for many years will long be remembered. Jack loved to play practical jokes and even enjoyed having practical jokes played on him. Jack's family was the most important part of his being. He will be missed.
Love bob and Donna MacNAughton - neighbours and friends for over 27 years

Mardie and Family - I am Donna MacNaughton's sister and a friend of Mardie's. We are so sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I had met Jack a couple of times but Donna has told me many stories over the years so I knew he was a bigger than life presence with a keen sense of humour. I don't think Jack ever knew but Donna had me looking for plastic skunks for Jack one Christmas - I think they were going on a hat. We know you will have many moments of tears and laughter and hopefully it will help to ease your pain and sadness to know that Jack is no longer in pain himself.
Linda, John and James

MY DAD
As I was thinking about writing a tribute to my DAD, I thought...what can I say in a few words that would do justice to all the years of Love and Strength that Dad gave us.
DAD, had a wonderful personality, a great sense of humor and was a great teller of jokes and who loved to play practical jokes on others. At times he was like a kid at heart.
DAD, was a gentle man that embodied everything a man should be. He was an intelligent, hard working, humble, compassionate man who had strong convictions he strongly believed in, always talked about and he firmly stood for the the things he deemed important...Family, Friends, the Masons,Shriners, Jesters and many cancer patients he drove for their treatments and appointments. DAD, was a man of high moral standards, a good provider, who deeply loved his wife, myself, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a man who would sacrifice anything for the sake of his family. He was my protector and confidant.
I sincerely hope the real tribute to DAD will be demonstrated by the actions of our lives...that we are a testament to the Loves and Lessons he taught and instilled in us...kindness, good work ethics, be a true and good friend, have compassion for others, keep your sense of humor and always help, love and protect each other.
I will never, ever meet anyone who will hold a candle to him in my heart. He was one of a kind and I thank GOD I was blessed to have him as my DAD.

Meeting "Jack"
Chuck couldn't wait to take me to Smith Falls to meet my new "sis" and her family. I remember sitting in the sunroom next to Jack as Mard started introducing everyone. He saw me anxiously trying to remember everyone and leaned over and said "Don't worry you probably won't see them again unless its at a funeral and if it's yours, you really don't have to worry. He said it so matter of factly, just a twinkle in his eye and a little smirk on his face, I realised immediately what a perfect match Mard and Jack were. We have fond memories of sitting around Mardi's table listening to stories that only the 2 of them could tell.
It was 2 years ago when Mard told us how she wanted the stairway to her famous cold cellar painted. Dear Tom volunteered to do it, but there was an accident and the paint went all over her stairs. Jack turned to us and said "Charlie those are expensive pickles you're getting." What an incredible wit he had.
I think our fondest memory was when he received his award from the Governor General for 14 years of compassionate service to cancer patients. He spent days driving them to Ottawa and waiting hours to return them home. Mardi proudly showed us the picture of Governor General Michaelle Jean with her arms around Jack holding his certificate. I looked at him and said,"It doesn't get better then this Jack" and he whispered in my ear, "She could have been white".
Jack never wanted the fanfare, that's probably why he left us like he did. But he really didn't leave us completely because we will all carry with us our own special stories of a very special man. Good night Jack.
