Obituary of Pauline Lorana McCrum
Pauline Lorana McCrum (Bishop) February 15 1923 - July 2 2018
"Think of me as being on a new and wonderful adventure."
Pauline McCrum, June 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Pauline McCrum (nee Bishop). Pauline was the daughter of Geraldine and Whitfield Bishop and grew up in Chipman N.B. with four siblings (the late Thyra Gander (Bob)) the late Vida Maxwell (Byron) as well as surviving sister Myrna Till (Brian) and brother Raymond Bishop (Marita).
After high school she attended teachers college in Fredricton N.B. and her first school was a one room school house. In1944 she became a teacher at the school in MacAdam N.B., where she met Robert P McCrum, They married in June 1946 and after a short time in Massachusetts, came back to N.B and eventually ended up in Smiths Falls Ont., where they raised their five children.
Pauline went back to teaching in the 60's. First as a supply teacher and later accepted positions at Queen Elizabeth school in Perth and Chimo School in Smiths Falls.
Pauline and Bob lived on Cornelia St. from 1952 until 1972. In 1972 they built a house on the Bay Rd. in Lombardy which became a place that all family would gather for countless celebrations. In 2010 they left their home and moved to the Wedgewood in Brockville. Unfortunately, Pauline lost her beloved Bob in Jan. of 2014 after 67 plus years of marriage.
Retirement only meant a beginning for Pauline. She golfed, sailed the great lakes, took art classes (we all enjoy her paintings on our walls.) and took every opportunity to learn new things including computers. We all Face Timed with her regularly! In the time she was at the Wedgewood she put together a book club and kept her dinner mates engaged in lively conversation on every topic. To quote her sister Myrna, losing her "is a terrible loss of talent and creativity"
However, she survives in small ways in each of her children: Harold McCrum (Jane) of Lindsay; Barbara McCready (Bill) of Thunder Bay; Lorana Potts (Dan) of Marion, Virginia; Carol (Kate) Scott (Fraser) of Toronto; and Phillip McCrum (Katherine) of Vancouver. She has 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren: Matthew Adams (Allison) and children Angus and Eve; Eric Adams (Sarah) sons Timothy and Fen; Jeremy Adams (Laura) daughter Lydia; Heather Logan (Kris), sons Oliver and Whittaker; April Witham (Cory); Phillip Potts; Mary Heney children Aislynn and Carter; Hayley Parsons (CJ) children Isabelle and Daniel; Gregory Scott (Marissa) children William, Cameron, & Alexander; Whitfield Ransom-McCrum.
Pauline is also survived by her sister in law, Christa McCrum, wife of the late Roger McCrum, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family would like to thank the Wedgewood staff, care partners, Dr. Bhatt in Brockville and Dr. Contreras and Carolynn at Ottawa Heart Institution for their care and support of Mum over the last few years.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls on Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. A reception for friends and family will be held at the Wedgewood Retirement Home in Brockville, commencing at 1:30.
