In Memory of Philip Thompson who died suddenly on Monday, July 30th, 2018. Husband of Susan, father of Danielle (Perth), Ross and wife, Nancy (Brampton) and grandfather to Melynda and Eric. Brother to Chris (Maija) and uncle to nieces and nephews in the GTA and England. Born in Liverpool England on April 20th, 1926, educated at Shrewsbury School in England and graduated from Cambridge University. Moved to Canada in the 1950's, worked as an Electrical engineer, Professor at University of Ottawa (1966-1976) and then left to start the engineering firm, Thompson-Foss. They moved to Perth in 1990. Philip and Susan enjoyed Scottish Country Dancing for many years. He was an active participant and volunteer with the Canadian Ski Marathon, Nakkertok Ski Club and Tay Valley Ski Club. He enjoyed cross country, downhill and Telemark skiing into his late 80's. He sailed and raced Albacores at the Gatineau River Yacht Club and on Calabogie Lake. Also as a young man, he was an avid pilot. Many people would recognize him walking with purpose around Perth wearing his backpack and straw hat. There was a family only green burial held in Cobourg, ON. In remembrance of Philip, memorial donations to the Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Perth and District Union Public Library would be appreciated.
