Obituary of Edna May Saunders

Saunders, Edna May (Blackshaw) Edna May Saunders (Blackshaw), born in Surrey, England in 1920, died peacefully at Lanark Lodge, Perth on December 9th, 2019. Beloved mother of David (Barbara) and Peter; faithful wife of Stan who predeceased her; and grandmother of Taryn (Cheryl). Sister of Ivy, Freddie, Alfie all deceased, and Robert. Raised in a crusty part of London in the prewar years, she experienced her share of the harsh reality and the colourful life of that city, both at an early age and during WWII. Her father, a WWl veteran, was a bookmaker and owner of racing dogs; her mother was a kind soul who passed on her spirit to her daughter - virtually everyone who came in contact with our mother would attest that "in her tongue was the law of kindness," whatever the adversity she was facing. Our mother died with some questions unanswered, but we are confident that by now, Jesus will have answered all of them. Our mother immigrated to Canada with her family in 1952. Over the years she worked occasionally as a teacher, both in Toronto and in PEI; and as a secretary. Most of the time, though, we were blessed to have her as a stay-at-home mother, bringing us up with the blend of understanding and realism characteristic of her generation. She lived a long life and will be sorely missed - there is no substitute for a mother. We wish to extend special appreciation to the staff of Lanark Lodge and to private caregiver Sally Wilkinson, both of whom went beyond the call of duty in helping her through the latter years. Private funeral arrangements have been made for a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Blair and Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. West, Perth.
