Chief Warrant Officer ~ Retired RCNR Passed away peacefully at the Smiths Falls Hospital on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 1:25 a.m. at the age of 84. Left to mourn Mel's enormous loss are his wife and soulmate Marie (nee Briscoe) of 61 years, his daughter Kelly (Tim) Heembrock and son Marc (Avery) Olesen. He will be sadly missed by his 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Clarke Briscoe, his sisters-in-law Judy Frandsen (late Bent), and Laurie (Bruce) Hutton. He is also predeceased by his sister-in-law June Ann McDermott. Mel was born in Denmark and was the son of the late Aage and Margrethe (nee Skov). He leaves behind two brothers Jens Peter (Tove) and Leo (Anette) Olesen. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins in Denmark and Canada. All are invited to celebrate Mel's life at Blair and Son Funeral home Smiths Falls, on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service in the Chapel at 2 p.m. Members of Legion will be gathering for the Legion Prayers Interment will take place at the Hillcrest Cemetery Columbarium. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
