Denise of Perth passed away peacefully at Perth Community Care on Wednesday April 5th, 2023. She grew up in Toronto, and spent her later childhood and teenage years in Perth, before moving to Ottawa. Denise holds a Master of Social Work degree and was a past director at Youth Services Bureau in Ottawa, prior to retiring to Perth/Rideau Lake. On her retirement she was honored as a Community Builder in Ottawa, her name is inscribed on the United Way Wall of Inspiration in Ottawa City Hall. In Perth she served on the board of Children’s Aid.
Denise was predeceased by her parents, Doris and Al Vallely and is survived by her husband, Ron Thornbury, her brother Paul, his son Damon (Sarah) and Koi Neah, Damon's mother. She is a sister-in-law to Margaret-Anne and Ron Clough in Ottawa and aunt to Adam and Kendra Clough (Shawn). Denise is god-mother to Mathew McCarron, the son of her dear friends Lisa Bartoletto and David McCarron of Ottawa. She spent her last few years in the excellent care of staff at Perth Community Care and by her family physician, Dr. Peter Jechel.
Cremation has occurred. Visitation to honour her life will be held at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W., Perth on Saturday April 15th, 2023 from 1:00 P.M. until service in the chapel at 2:00 P.M. A reception will follow in the Family Centre. In remembrance of Denise, memorial contributions to Community Home Support Lanark County or Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
