Obituary of Sophia Evans R.N.

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mom, Sophia Evans (Besidowski).  Mom left us on October 7, 2024.  She was predeceased by her husband, Reginald Gordon Evans.  She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She left behind her four daughters, Barb (Robin Hillier), Anne (Mike Lydan), Lise (Jim Charbonneau), and Sue (Tony Racozzi).  She adored and was ever so proud of her four grandchildren, Jeff, Matt, Jason and Téa.

Sophie was born in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.  She was a northern girl at heart and worked in the James Bay area, early in her nursing career.  She married Reg on January 25, 1958, and started their family in 1959.  She returned to nursing after having her girls.  She never complained even when working tirelessly through holidays and shift work while still making sure her family was taken care of.  She continued to choose to live without complaints through her 92 years.

She loved reading, crosswords, driving (fast), and was the best Jeopardy champion that never was.  She loved her late dog, Mikki.  She and Mikki would cruise together on her many family visits. She liked things simple and comfortable.  In her younger years, she liked to sew and knit.  She made a lot of her girls' clothing while they were growing up, including the best high school graduation dresses.  Her door was always open, she was calm and easy to talk to, making everyone feel at home.  She also welcomed any four-legged "fur balls" that came through her door.

She was a selfless woman who made sure she was there when needed the most, never asking for anything in return.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She was most at peace when in her own home and enjoying her favourite seat in her sunroom.

Keeping with Sophie's wishes, there will only be a private family gathering.  In lieu of flowers, donations to your local animal shelter will be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Home, Perth.
