Obituary of Jamie Deacon

Jamie - James Vernon Deacon

October 11, 1964 - January 1, 2025

After a very long difficult battle determined to live life with all his health issues and daily challenges, James (Jamie) Vernon Deacon at the age of 60, passed away Wednesday January 1st, 2025 shortly after midnight.  Son of James Deacon and the late Sharon (Cavanagh) Deacon.  He leaves behind his loving father Jim, sister Tracy (Mark) English, step-mom/friend Dianne and niece Rylie (Richard) Greer.  Jamie will be missed by The Deacon, King and Shaver Family, along with his Aunt Lorraine, Uncle Daryl and cousins.

Jamie was an avid reader with a catalogue library of over a thousand books. Later, clinically blind he used the tools to help him read.  He was a great history buff, a book of knowledge. He researched and compiled ancestry of Deacon, Cavanagh and King Families.  During his idle time Jamie worked tediously building model planes and ships, proudly displaying his results.  He was a great collector of many things, just to mention a few of his favourites; hockey cards, different beer bottles and cans.  Jamie graduated at Loyalist College with a certificate in business.  He always said it was the best years, party and fun with friends.  Jamie’s career ended with Hershey’s Smiths Falls in Logistic Department.

He enjoyed family dinners, always reminiscing especially about when him and Tracy were kids.  He was never shy of an argument, especially when he had all the facts. He was athletic in his school years playing hockey and football during high school.  Loved music, did disc jockey during weekend venues in his high school years.  Enjoyed listening to a good baseball game in his later years.

Jamie’s heart was big when it came to his furry friends, they were his children…just to mention a few Scruffy, Sandy, Tug and Winston.

He was compassionate, funny and likeable character, had a wit about him.  His last fifteenth years was a struggle, he fought a difficult battle, Jamie was a warrior in his own right.  He had a few earth angels that helped along the way.  He couldn’t have done it without his dialysis family, his caring nurses Darlene, Shelley and Trish, his volunteer driver and friend Natalie that always went that extra mile. As his family Jim, Dianne and Tracy, we thank you all for such kindness, caring, support and the love.  There are many names Jamie spoke of we did not know, we are grateful and thankful for the kindness that made his day a little easier.

Thanks to The Medical Staff and Team at Kingston General Hospital for all your care and Providence Care Kingston during Jamie’s recovery after a stroke in 2020.  A special thank you nurse Carsten, ICU KGH for your compassion and caring help during these past difficult days.

“First time we met is a favourite memory of mine

They say time changes all it pertains to

But your memory is stronger than time

I guess everything does change

Except what you choose to recall

There's a million good daydreams to dream on

But that’s one of my favourite memories of all.

Love, your Dad”

In keeping with wishes there will be no funeral service.  Honouring Jamie’s memory contributions to the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation - Dialysis Unit, 60 Cornelia St. West, Smiths Falls, ON K7A 0A4 - would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements are in the care of Blair and Son Funeral Directors.
