Obituary of Stuart Alexander Paterson
PATERSON, Stuart (Sandy) Alexander - Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 12th, 2020 at the Smiths Falls Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Cherished husband of Kathryn Wilder for over 28 years; loving father of Garney (Rebecca) and Lisa; proud grandfather of Amanda, Liam, Chloe, Mattias and Isabella; treasured older brother of Donald (Louisa), Scott (Jan) and Barbara Graff (David). Stuart was born on July 4th, 1947 in Hamilton, Ontario to the late Donald and Jessie (nee Bell) Paterson. He spent most of his career at the Privy Council Office as Director, Informatics and Technical Services, in support of eight Prime Ministers. Stu was known and admired for his kind quiet manner, dry wit, intelligence, creativity, and willingness to help others. He and Kathy shared a passion for tennis, golf, biking and touring the lake in their pontoon boat. They enjoyed spending winters in their close-knit Pine Lakes community in Florida. The family would like to thank the extraordinary nursing staff and doctors at the Smiths Falls Hospital for embracing them and ensuring that Stu's last weeks were as peaceful as possible. They would also like to thank Major Gerald Reilly of the Salvation Army Church for his presence and compassion during and after Stuart's final days. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Stuart’s life at the Blair & Son Funeral Home Chapel (112 Beckwith St. N, Smiths Falls) on Friday, January 24th, 2020 at 2 pm. Reception will follow in the Blair & Son Reception Centre. Online condolences may be left at www.blairandson.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation
