Dear Rene and family,
It was with shock and sadness that Karen and I heard of Gerry's death. We were looking forward to visiting you in Florida after Gerry's call in December. I guess that is a reminder to us to not put things off.
At this time I am thinking of the fun we used have at Lions Club and the good times at dinners and evenings at our home and yours.
I am also reminded of Gerry's and our long association in education. As fellow principals we enjoyed each others ideas and sometimes some friendly debates. The five years that I served under his superintendency were years where I always enjoyed his leadership and full support. One always had to admire his dedication and service to the community through the Lions Club and the Hospital Board and the other projects on which he worked.
We know Gerry will be missed greatly by you and the family and all the friends he made during his lifetime and our prayers are with you at this time.

Only recently did I hear of Gerry's illness. It is with shock and sadness that I heard of his death. I clearly remember that last time I visited Perth I was fortunate enough to see and say hello again after a few years away from Lanark County. Gerry gave many educators the opportunities to become the best that they could be. His trust and supportive nature will be remembered by many. I will especially remember how he loved life and was devoted to his family. Please accept my genuine and deep sympathy at this time.

Dear Rene and Family,
We wish to send you our deepest condolences on the passing of Gerry. He has been such a positive presence on all of us who knew him through his contributions to the Upper Mile Point Road Association. He was especially adept at keeping our annual meeting on course, fairly, sensibly and with humour, always ensuring that it ended timely and in good spirits so all could enjoy the BBQ which followed. Rene, we will particularly miss seeing the two of you walking the road all the way to the mailbox as we drove by either in or on our way out from the cottage, bugs or no bugs, so many times.
God Bless. Our prayers are with you.

Gerald was my only neighbour at the Pamour mine where our fathers both worked. We grew up playing in the woods, making bows and arrows, building cabins, fishing, swimming together and with others from the community. We both played violin, and with two accordionists formed an ensemble. Sorry we can no longer share these memories. Will need to resume in the great beyond...
