Following a brief battle with cancer, Gerald (Gerry) Saumur, in his 75th year, died peacefully on February 11th, 2012 at GWM Hospital surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He was predeceased by infant son Derrick, brother Peter and parents Laurie and Gertrude. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Rene, sons Kerry (Leanne) and Dean (Lisa), grandchildren Tyler, Joel, Michael and Leah, sisters Helen and Connie as well as many nieces and nephews. Gerry had a lifetime career in education from a teacher to superintendent benefitting the lives of hundreds of staff and thousands of students in Northwestern Ontario and Lanark County. His charitable contributions to the community he loved, including service on the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Board and 48 years in the Lion’s Club. His engaging personality and sense of humour will be long missed but never forgotten by family and his many friends. We’ll always remember and cherish the precious time that we had together. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. Perth on Friday, February 17th, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. A Lions Club Memorial service will be held at 6:15 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St John’s Roman Catholic Church, Perth on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. Family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the GWM Hospital Foundation in Perth.
